Have you ever known someone where it seems like all of the worst things in life happen to them? Someone that makes you think twice about how "hard" you think you have it?

There's a girl at work I know and we've been talking for the past few months. She's a super nice person, very caring, helpful, all of that. She's not only working with me but also working another job to try and get everything of her's paid off (house, car, etc). She's also the type of person who would probably help a complete stranger no questions asked.

Anyways, I don't know if anyone remembers me posting back in September about how things weren't exactly going that great. Well she heard about that and went out of her way to be a positive for me during a pretty ****ty time. She invited me to go for breakfast with her and a few other people from work one Sunday and I guess you could say it's become a tradition between all of us there now. We've also gone bowling, seen movies, etc. Basically just going out and having a good time and getting away from all the bull****.

As this has gone on we've gotten closer and closer, to the point where of course I ended up being a typical ******* and telling her there were feelings there last Thursday morning (Oh yeah, I guess I should mention she's 32 and I'm 21 ). I may or may not have misread her interest in me because she was always checking in on me, even away from work, and she'd do things like just walk right up to me and put her number in my phone.

So after I made things known to her, of course the answer was no. She basically told me I need to live my life and that there's a lot of things I don't know when it comes to her. It sucked but I knew it probably wasn't going to happen anyways, so things went back to normal between us and not super awkward or anything like that thankfully.

Well yesterday we're texting and the conversation is all over the place. PS4, food, sex, basically every guy's dream conversation topics with a girl lol. Eventually though she starts letting go of some of those things I didn't know about her, and let's just say it quickly turned into one of the most depressing conversations ever.

Out of nowhere she goes "last year the doctors told me I have 3 months to live because I have ovarian cancer". She paid for her own grave, coffin, paid her bills for a year so her sister didn't have to worry about it, but then with a month to go she found out the doctors had made a mistake and it was someone else's results. So that's all well and good. False alarm, everything is okay, she's still alive. Well, apparently if she ever has cancer, she can't take any treatment for it. She has 7 tumors in her stomach and one is in her liver. Also, I guess sometimes they can pop and that gives her internal bleeding. There was one night a couple of weeks ago we went out to eat and she ended up going to her car for awhile because she "wasn't feeling good" while the rest of us finished up. Here we were thinking it was just from the food or something, meanwhile it was because that was one of those times. And I guess if a specific one pops, she's dead within seconds, so this is why she's working two jobs, trying to be debt-free, so she can travel the world before that could ever happen. She said they had tried treatment on her before and she died for 45 seconds before being brought back.

Pretty ****ing depressing, right? Well this hasn't even scratched the surface. Sunday morning after work I stayed over at her place. At one point she tells me she had an arranged marriage at 15 with this 50 year old guy her mother was with. The guy told her mom (who btw, left her and her sister for dead when they were trying to escape their country because their father had changed his beliefs and was literally cut into pieces because of it) he was in love with her and not the mother. This guy beat the **** out of her constantly, but eventually she was able to get away. Then at 21 she lost her virginity because she was raped. The piece of **** got her pregnant as well, which she got aborted. Fast forward a few years later and she got pregnant with her fiancee, who cheated on her in her own bed, but she had a miscarriage. Some other things happened and now she can never have kids.

It's all incredibly sad and depressing. Just one of those things is a life-changing event for someone, never mind all of that rolled into one.

There's so much of me that wishes there were something I could do, but really, what could I do other than just be a good friend and be there for her if she ever needed something? It's all pretty messed up and something I would only imagine reading about. The fact she's the way she is despite all of this is completely amazing to me and just puts her even higher up in my eyes.

It really does, and I know it sounds far-fetched in a sense but I would have no reason at all not to believe her. I'm not saying it isn't a possibility because you never know with people, but she's like the complete opposite of what you expect out of "most people" (in a good way).

You'd also have to be incredibly ****ed up in the head to make those kinds of things up about yourself.
