Re: Off Topic 2013
So... I suppose a paragraph about how awful the teacher is and the fact that this class has been an enormous waste of my time wouldn't be the most appropriate thing to end my final paper with, correct? Because I'm totally tempted to keep it in there and roll with it.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Off Topic 2013
This is the second semester in a row where I've gotten an A in a class that I've gone to maybe 5 times all semester.

Re: Off Topic 2013
There was a large lecture class I had at 8AM one semester. Once I figured out that there was a test review the class before test days, that was never attended. It was also called "Art Today", so zero ****s were given.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
I have a reoccurring nightmare where I will go to a class once and forget about it for the rest of the semester. Then I get notice that the final is in 30 minutes and I can't even remember where the classroom is.
I think I have PSSD (Post Severe Slacking Disorder).YNWAComment

Majority of graduates leave college in massive debt and still have nothing to show for it and are not any more marketable in the job force than someone kid that dropped out of school in the 9th grade and has been in the workforce for more years than a college grad.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
That's because the majority of all colleges are there to do nothing more than collect as much money from people as possible. You have already paid in one form or another and they could not care less if you attend or not. College degrees at this point are not even worth the paper they are printed on.

Yeah, I don't think I could just walk into a television or radio station and get a job as a producer/production worker without the degree I'm here to get. So I'm fine with what I'm doing.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: Off Topic 2013
The problem is a lot of people think they can just go to college for 4 years for anything without a plan then strap on their job helmet, squeeze into a job cannon, and fire off into jobland where jobs grow on jobies. It doesn't work like that.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2013
Teaching elementary students is something I really want to do in my life and i'm 100% sure in the state of FL it's something I can't do without a degree.
My first few semesters at FSU felt pretty pointless, cause like Dayman I had a bunch of BS classes where I could not show up and get A's as I was just filling out liberal arts requirements. There were only a few classes that were not like that, but they were either prereqs for my program or had awesome teachers.
Once I got into my actual program is where college seemed to actually begin for me. Over the last 2 semesters combined I have only missed class once or twice because attendance is pretty much required and I have learned so much. Plus it's provided me with an internship of sorts in each semester with this upcoming one being 2 days a week in the classroom before 3 whole weeks and then a full semester internship in the fall. Theoretically it's probably not the wisest investment to be $20k in debt for an Elementary Ed. degree and others endorsements that i'll be given, but it's something I want to do and will probably be a somewhat stable career path.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Off Topic 2013
Indeed, if you are in the medical field then its one thing, if your in 95% of the other degree fields, then its a complete other story.
Fact is that for the most part, college is a complete waste of time and money for a majority of its attendees. You will never convince people that are in college of that because they have aspirations, but on closer inspection, their is a huge population of college graduates that will be indebted for life and find their degree useless.
According to the Washington post, only 27% of graduates actually use their degree and work in their respective field...with a majority of that being in the medical or education field.
If you have a degree in Business, Science, History, English, Arts, or any other one of 1000s of different fields, best wishes to you.Comment

They may not work in their field but they normally have to have some sort of degree to get a job.
Also I'm majoring in Political Science. Not because I want a job in that but I really enjoy learning about it.Last edited by dickey1331; 12-20-2013, 04:49 PM.MLB: Texas Rangers
