We're not doing anything special this Valentines Day. Meeting a large group of friends at a bar for a night of drinking. Some are couples, other are single. We go out to eat and do various other things all the time, so going to treat tonight like a normal Thursday.

I did however take care of mom by sending her flowers at work. Can't forget about the one who put up with all our bull**** over the years.

Nothing like watching an old tv show to make you feel old and make you realize how much stuff you take for granted. I was watching Martin last night, watch it every night actually and in the beginning of the show at the bottom of the screen it says in stereo where available.

I laughed at that and thought wow how times have changed. Back then just being in stereo was a big thing. Also noticed when you watch old tv shows and old movies, how easily you can spot special effects compared to today.

I remember in the '80s when having a show in closed captions was a big deal! BTW I agree with you on the special FX but I think that it was more charming than anything else. These guys knew they couldn't make it look uber realistic but they did the best with what they have whereas these days they can do any damn thing they want and sometimes the realism gets thrown out of the window which undermines the story.

I also noticed back then, a season of a tv show consisted of 30 episodes or more. Now, a season consist of 8 to 10 episodes.

Exactly, which meant it was a new episode every week. This crap now you're lucky if you get 2 new episodes in 2 consecutive weeks.

Network television still runs 20-28 episodes a season.

FX, AMC, HBO, BBC, etc all run about 10 episode seasons. Typically they're 12, but HBO and BBC have run as little as 6 episodes for a season.

He's probably talking about cable shows, though I believe most cable shows have a 15 episode season. Network shows still run about 20-22 episodes a season.

EDIT: Fresh Tendrils beat me to it but i'll add that at least with the BBC this isn't a new thing as British shows have ALWAYS had very limited runs and sometimes with some shows (at least back in the day) the interval between one season to a next could be up to 2-3 years!

Probably more so with shows in the '70s and early '80s but some shows did consistently have 24-25+ episode seasons.

So this probably isn't the best place for this, but I may be looking at one REALLY funny weekend:

Friday: OPENING NIGHT (!!!!!!!) with a girl I’ve been friends with since before kindergarten. Saying she is beautiful is an understatement. I wouldn’t say that I like her or anything that drastic, but there’s stuff beyond “just friends” in both camps (can confirm with 96 percent confidence). Issue is, she leaves for NOLA on Sunday and I may not see her until Summer.

Saturday: Baseball game with a girl I REALLY (can’t stress that enough) like and is absolute GF material. Likes baseball more than I do, has season tickets. Absolutely good girl, as good and drama-free as they come. Pristine. But we’re still in that awkward dating-but-not-really-dating-yet stage.

Sunday: Baseball game with a girl I’ve had relations with and really do not care for anything more from. Kyle Field Bat **** crazy. Guano loco.

Been playing GTA San Andreas lately since I never beat it first go around and I'm on the mission for that guy Zero where you have to fly the remote controlled plane around the whole ****ing city shooting a few people and cars before it runs out of gas, and man does it suck. After a bunch of attempts I finally destroyed all the targets and then had to fly it back to the starting point and land it and I missed the landing point and landed in some small boxed in area that was impossible to get out of.
