Thought this was kind of cool. Ichiro meeting MJ back in 1995. Start it at 3:45 if you don't want to wade through the Japanese voice over.

      Re: Off Topic 2013

I've been there as far as being bored with my life and ****. It's never a fun place to be, but there's always a solution and way out of the rut.

Some things have changed with me over the past few weeks or so and I'm a much happier person these days. I have new goals in life and a lot of ambition and some of the people I have met recently have really helped.

The problem I have now is how impatient I can be.

Every time I do what I perceive to be the wrong thing, negative things still happen.

The economy sucks here, I've been out of work for over two months now and even with over a decade of experience in my field I cannot find anything that isn't entry level stuff that I would have turned my nose up at ten years ago and rightfully so.

I have no time or desire to "go back to school" like so many others in their thirties are doing either.

If I had the money (which I don't) I would just follow the Rays on the road all year just for something to do. There is seriously nothing I would rather do this year than that.

I have no motivation to do anything with my life at this point and it makes me feel like a piece of ****. Being out of work for two months also makes me feel like a piece of ****. I'm just glad I don't have kids, otherwise I would feel like an even bigger piece of ****.

Playing in my band is fun and all, but all the other guys have jobs and such so directing all of my energy towards that is also not an option. With the genre of music that we play it isn't like we're ever going to make a serious living off of it anyway. It's mainly just a hobby.

I am just so ****ing lost right now, it's unreal.

              Ah, adulthood.
Do not get into the thought process that "school" is where its at. All of those people you mention going back to school spend thousands of dollars and acquire tons of student loan debt to only get the degree of their next choosing and go right back to having to settle for the same entry level position that could have had without the degree. I watch it happen time and time again everywhere we travel.

People think that school is the golden answer and only use the student loans to prop themselves up during this time and being able to justify it thinking there is better opportunities around the corner.

The only answer right now is in "who you know" basically and who will give you a chance. There are a ton more people in my industry that are out of work and looking for jobs that have better creditials than I do, but the honest reason for is my advancement is brown nosing and doing everything I can to be well liked. The days of being the most qualified / most experienced to get the job have gone by the wayside in my opinon.

For example , their was a posting for a producer position that was posted about 2 months back and there were a ton of applicants. Regardless of job history and performance, the guy hired for the job was hired based on the fact he was friends of someone who also works in the same office, nothing else mattered.

Yep. School is nonsense. Get a bunch of loans and contribute to the eventual burst of THAT bubble without even getting a job out of it? Screw that.

It's amazing what an education does for some people, but what a waste it can be for someone else. I will say that I'm wishing I had more education right now. If I did, I could slide in to the Navy as an E2 and maybe an E3.

In all seriousness, the majority of the the most successful people I know either had a TON of school (attorneys) or absolutely no school at all (poker players, small business owners, etc.) so there is merit to that.

Education is not the end all, be all that so many folks make it out to be.

If you're doing engineering or something scientific, education is obviously infinitely more important.

                            Well, yeah.

Same with going into law or medicine. It is absolutely essential.

A degree in general education (no matter what the school was) isn't worth the paper it's printed on, though.

Or a political science degree....*ahem*. Damn me for using school to learn more about a subject I like, rather than a launching pad for a job. It's dumb what higher education has become.
