I bust my *** working only to see practically all my money go to food and groceries. So yeah if I can get help for that money drainer, I'm for it. I might qualify but I probably work too much. Go figure...

Having a pallet jack run over your foot (or run into it) was always fun at the warehouses I worked at too. But at least pallet jack racing was fun.

Are any of you guys familiar with "if then" formulas in Excel?

I'm working on a Budget Variance Report and each month I enter the actuals from the GL and compare them against the budget for that particular month.

What I need is an "if then" formula so that when I begin entering a new month the numbers from the budget tab (for that month) pulls over automatically.

I'm basically an Excel noob so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm back and forth on the food stamps issue. I make about 150 to 200 a week and I keep telling myself more and more, you paid into it might as well get something out of it. But then on the other hand, our country is beyond broke an d I don't want to depend on the government to support me.

I may not be reading this correctly...

So, for instance you would have 2 Excel Sheets? You want one to pick up the budgeted numbers from the other?

If so, you would need a V-lookup.

EDIT: If/then could work as well. You would just have to an extra step or two.

Just remember that a V-lookup would require the names of the accounts to be exactly the same.

The easiest way would be to have the budget tab and the monthly tabs to be set up exactly the same. Then you could just copy the budget number column from the budget tab and Paste Special...Values into the new monthly tab.

Excel would piss me the hell off back in Computer Applications and Advanced Comp Apps in HS.

One of the few classes I aced back then. I guess because I was so quick, I could make up all the work I missed on days I skipped. Excel always threw me though.

I have one spreadsheet per Job with multiple tabs. The first tab is the budget for the year, the next is January's BVR, then Febuary's and so on and so fourth. Lastly there's a Year-to-Date tab, that calculates as the year progresses.

On the monthly tab, there's an Actual and Budget column for each Iine item. I manually enter the Actuals each month after I prepare the Financials.

For the past few years, I've done as ITT said and just copied and pasted the values monthly for the budgets column from the budgets tab. Which is fine but considering that I have five companies to do this for each month (plus I have to enter other data to enter as well - monthly gas prices, kWh/ mmbtu usage, etc.), then I'm prone to forgetting something here or there.

If there's a formula that would pull January's numbers from the budgeted tab and automatically update on the monthly tab, then when I start Febuary it would automatically update again, then that would be helpful (the line items all are identical on the both tabs).
