    Input on indoor smoking needed

I am writing a paper on non-smoking ordinances. Which in this case is not allowing smoking indoors. I was trying to get some insight on something. Could some of you be kind enough to answer my poll? The argument is pretty much would a non-smoking law cause local businesses to lose business because patrons could no longer smoke while they ate/drank at certain places. To keep the thread civil I am not interested on whether or not you think laws like this should be passed

Option A: I will go to the next town over to be able to smoke while I eat/drink
This applies if an ordinance was passed banning smoking indoors. Meaning you would take your business to another town to be able to smoke.

Option B: I will go to the next town over to AVOID smoke while eating/drinking.
The opposite obviously. You will go out of town to go somewhere that doesn't allow smoking indoors.

Option C: It does not matter to me.

Option B and it's not even close.

Ohio actually did pass a law banning cigarette smoke in all public places almost seven years ago and I couldn't be happier. The bar scene was most definitely in decline for the first year or two, but people started to adapt and now it is almost as good as it used to be.

      B. If you have to smoke indoors, do it at your house or in your car.

B and thank God Ohio banned indoor smoking.

Everyone should catch on to this ideal.

          Very interesting question.

I'm a smoker but by far prefer going to places that don't allow smoking inside. I have no problem going outside to smoke.

That said, I live in a part of Pittsburgh where if the establishments banned it, they would lose a ton of business because every bar in this neighborhood allows smoking so you wouldn't have to go to the next town to find a bar that allows it.

There are many parts of Pittsburgh however where this isn't true and in fact most of the bigger bars in the city don't allow it so I think the question really depends on the area the bar is in.

            Option B.

I do not want smoking near my food. I don't even like smoking near me period. I have no problem with people who smoke, but I'd prefer to keep my distance from it when at all possible.

              Option B.

I don't mind if people smoke, but it burns the hell out of my nose, especially now during the winter with the dry air. I will almost always go out of my way (if I have to) to avoid smoke whenever I can.

Option B easily. I'm a non-smoker and have a very strong aversion to cigarette smoke as it makes me physically sick and is one of very few things that can make me lose my appetite. I was quite ecstatic when Pennsylvania passed the ban on smoking in public places a while back.

To expand on this slightly, I think the law is that smoking is banned in all establishments unless less than 10% of their income comes from selling food. That is, if the saile of food makes up less than 10% of their income then they are exempt from the smoking ban.

From my understanding it's more than 10% but the bars in my area (Crafton) far surpass that in sales but still allow smoking.

They've find ways around it because they have to to survive. It's sad, but it is what it is for them.

Well I guess I'm the first to vote for A. When I go to the bar I smoke a cigar with a glass of gentleman jack on the rocks. If smoking in bars is banned I would stop going to bars.

Here in Indiana in most cities you can still smoke in a bar if it isn't considered a restaurant or a restaurant/bar. Law took effect in July, banning all public places with exception of the casinos and bars.

I prefer bars/clubs that allow smoking (very few around here).

I also like to enjoy a cigar when I'm out in a bar. I don't smoke cigarettes, but there's something special about a really good cigar..

I went with B as well. Iowa has an indoor smoking ban in place and I am glad for it. I start hacking like crazy at the smell of smoke, so the smoking ban is very nice and it makes things easier as far as finding places to go and eat, etc. when they all have these smoking bans in place.

                            I choose C.

I'd rather not go to a place where smoking inside is allowed, but I'm also not going to drive to another town just to avoid it.

NC & VA passed a no smoking law like this a few years back. Love it. Even when I used to smoke, I couldn't stand the smell as I was eating.

I thought this was going around nation-wide, so I was shocked last time I went to a Myrtle Beach restraunt and they asked "Smoking or Non-smoking,"

If it's strictly a bar though, I have no problem with indoor smoking.
