    Public School Vs. Private School

Man I am about done with public schools right about now but I have a concern about the costs of private school.

Any of you guys here have any knowledge of the costs associated with private school? It just amazes me at some of the things I see coming from the teachers and even the lack of control and say so staff members like the principle has, let alone teachers who actually give a cats behind about the kids... Its not all of them but its too many of them.

    What do you guys say?

My sister had her kids in private school until 4 years ago. She was paying $3,000 a semester per a child. She has 3 kids, so yeah that was a lot of cheese. I have friends in New York that are paying $5,000 a semester for private school.

Snobs for the most part, sure the education be better, but they also change the way these kids think and view other people. Those $5,000 schools usually be the schools that famous people and powerful well known politician kids go to.

My girlfriend went to private school near Baltimore (Roland Park) when she was in grade school and I think her parents paid $12-$15G per year. She got a great education though and was accepted to some of the top universities in the country.

I was a product of public education in Charlotte, NC. It wasn't great, but I learned what I needed to and did fine throughout my collegiate career.

If you can afford it, I say go for it. Public education continues to go down the drain and the best teachers are looking to get into private education because they receive much more support (from what I've heard from teachers I know).

I dont understand what it is they do so differently, or are they just in a position to have more access to things other schools dont have?

I think it just has to do with state and federal regulations when it comes to public school. They're so focused on test scores that teachers and faculty are handcuffed. With private school there is more room to teach what they want rather than teaching strictly for EOGs/EOCs/etc. because their funding isn't dependent on those scores.

Yeah man but its bad..some of the teachers are awful, and whats worse is the communication between staff, students, parents and teachers.

I even had a teacher I called the school for, for my daughter hang the phone up in my face like a coward and I was trying to be a pro active parent.

Of course the principal defended him and and tried appeasing me but it didn't matter because like I said they're awful. Now I see teachers calling kids ******** and immature and nothing is done about it... but they can call you over something silly like uniform pants.

Biggest difference is resources and class size. I grew up in public school, it was 50 to 55 kids per a class room, textbooks were from 10 to 15 years old on average. My sister kids when they were in private school, it was just 15 to 20 kids per a class room and every classroom had 1 or 2 teacher aides, so it was really 1 adult per 5 kids. Every desk had a laptop. Their lunch was actual REAL COOKED food, buffet style. Public school lunch was some microwaved mass produced crap.

They also have more money, can hire better teachers, and, probably most importantly, can punt the undesirables rather than having them clog up the works. Even within the confines of the public school system here, traditional programs that can kick kids out for behavior, attendance, and grades give quite a bit better education than the regular public schools.

Figured they had better resources. My oldest is in a charter school and its just way different. One of her teachers cares for her ALOT..she came to our house warming, came to her B-day dinner, etc... like shes a real presence in her life.

The youngest..I just had to pull her out of a science class that was about 10 chapters behind the AP classes which is absolutely ridiculous

If you have a public college prep schools in your area, try to get into those. I went to public school, but I was in gifted classes or IB program. Those classes were probably as good if not better than most private schools.

The big difference is that in private schools you have parents that are involved and care. Yes you have a money and access to different teaching methods, but most differences come down to parents and kids caring.

Its alot harder for the kids to care now when the teachers dont care as much.

I went to a college prep high school myself but my youngest will be in the same charter school as the oldest when she's old enough, its just right now she cant which is where im seeing a breakdown in the way things are done.

Depends on which private school. My HS was like 7k a year. The school was Pre-K to 12th, and Pre-K cost the same as HS. SMH. Waste of money if you ask me but if you don't want your kid growing up in the cesspool that is LAUSD then you kind of have to. Find a private school that actually teaches things properly and send them there if it's possible.
