I half-assed my way through high school and my grades ranged from mid B's to high A's. I never failed a single class or even made anything below a B. Hell, it wasn't until the 10th grade that I didn't make an A in a class. I do kinda wished that I had taken the more advanced classes & put forth more effort in high school. As it probably would have prepared me better for college & prevented me from dropping out of college twice. High school was very easy for me. I rarely studied for any tests. I had little amounts of homework, little amounts of reading was involved. I don't recall writing many papers, only two pop in my head. Because of that I was unable to adapt to the college level of education.

I have always hated how schools (and states) put so much into this standardized testing bullcrap. IMHO, because of the standardized testing public schools do not prepare you for the next level of education.

Just an FYI I graduated from high school in December of 2004.

Im in highschool now. Senior year. I dont enjoy it at all.

If you arent smoking, or drinking, then theres really no point to it. Lol. I do neither.

Im popular though. Its only because I'm 6'5, Black, and I was the star of the basketball team.

Being tall sucks sometimes. I feel like the father to these kids when walking in the hallways. But hey its whatever

I thoroughly enjoyed my high school experience. Probably a little too much. I went to a specialized HS, Brooklyn Tech, which meant you had to take a test to get in. The benefit was that instead of being in a zoned school where you went to school with kids from your immediate neighborhood, I went to school with kids from all over the city. This exposed me to all sorts of backgrounds, and some of my best friends wound up being Italian, Jewish, Asian, Indian, you name it. That was one of the main benefits I took from HS. Being a specialized HS, college was emphasized off rip, so we didn't really have the petty nonsense that other schools had, like cliques and stuff. Which was surprising because we probably had about 4500 students in the school. My graduating class was 977. I keep more in touch with my HS classmates than folks from college.

Re: Did you care about high school? Then and now...

I just graduated high school a couple days ago and I think grade wise there isn't that much I would have changed except a couple classes. There were certain classes that I wouldn't try at all and get a 90-92 when if I put in a little bit more effort I could have been getting a 93-96. I never failed a single class, science I was just awful in though. I put most of my study time and effort to my science classes but I could never do good. Math came easy, I had P Calc first period this year and missed class 30 times either from sleeping in or being sick, I missed an entire week because of the flu and still got a 94 on that unit test. History I also found easy.

The main thing I wish was different but I had no control of was making friends. There's only 2 kids I have been friends with every single year. I was a lot more open my senior year which made it the most fun and I made friends a lot easier, I had a lot of trouble doing this my first 3 years.

Re: Did you care about high school? Then and now...

I'm almost done high school in Canada, and let me tell you, I don't really care anymore. The school I go to and my parents shattered many of my dreams of going to a good school completely.

First of all, I go to a school in "The Detroit of Canada" as I like to call it, filled with drugs, crime, and the most idiotic mayor I've ever seen. There's a variety of schools in the region, from the run-down Spec Ed Public Schools, to the Preppy Farm Schools. Of course, I go to one of the rundown schools in the area that's main focus is on the ESL Program. I have to say 80% of the school is or was in the ESL program in a school of over 800. Every single classroom is rundown and we still use out of date software from 1995. Most kids at our school just want the OSSD to bring back to the Middle East. It makes me feel uncomfortable going there.

I actually have to commute 20 minutes every day down the highway, only because of my parents. My mom worked at a automotive factory before she tore her rotator cuff, and my dad is a b**** that got cheated on by his last wife. Overall, the only encouragement I had was from my Grandmother, who was the only person who cared about my schooling or my life.

As for my grades and school life, I was a book nerd for the first two years. Only once did I see my grades fall below a 80 (Or A- in the US), and it was just too easy. All I did was study and sleep. I had zero friends because of it. It also doesn't help I have Asumburgers (IDK the spelling, and it's officially Mild Autism in June), so it was the only reason I was smart and got the good grades. I was even thinking of going to Architecture School until the end of Grade 10, when I took a Comm. Tech course just to fill up the final spot of classes.

I can sat this; that class changed my life. I absolutely loved it from the beginning, dominated every assignment, and was just about done the whole thing a month early. The teacher I have is the best one I ever had, as he's taught me everything I know about audio, video editing, and production. Without him, I might had be locked into a career I would've hated my whole life.

My grades unfortunately started dipping at the end of Grade 11, as I had the worst semester ever in High School. My math mark dropped down to the basement, from a 80 in Grade 10 to a 68 in Grade 11. My highest mark of the semester I think was an 85.

Now, going into Grade 12, I had been getting more involved with school. I started getting friends, did production work for basketball tournaments so well I was getting internship offers, and I was positive about my future. Then, my parents threw a curveball on me.

When it was time to apply for Universities, I had my mind set on going up north to Toronto. They were supporting it the whole way, until that time, when they said "You are not allowed to go there." It p***** me right off, because all the good schools were in Toronto. I had ZERO intentions on going to Last Chance U in my city. But, they kept saying "You can't apply there" or "We Can't Afford It" or "You're not taking OSAP." They were dead forcing me to go to the University in my city, which didn't have the programs or the quality of learning I wanted.

It drove me nuts. I want to go into broadcasting or sports television production, but the school only had a "Communication, Media, and Film" program that was: A) Out of Date, B) Not Credible, C) Not Hands On, and D) Not Enjoyable. So it forced me to apply for J-School at the local College (A Step Above Community College in the US) with a program that might get me nowhere in life.

Overall, I was pressured to do good in school, but my parents had the course of my life planned out before I even started high school; stay local, and live in my city to help them the rest of my life. They had ZERO intentions of seeing me go to a school outside of here, and wanted the cheapest possible option for my schooling so they wouldn't have to break the bank. Overall, I don't care about school now, because my school, and my parents, screwed my future.
