Speaking of, I was always amazed how Mel Tillis, a known stutterer, can sing so fluently.

Different portions of the brain are responsible for talking and for singing. I didn't know that either until I heard Black Sabbath's most recent album and had to know how Ozzy was still able to perform pretty well.

I overcame it by training myself to not talk until I had completely gathered my thoughts (which involved a lot of opening my mouth, thinking better of it, and closing it shut again) and I don't talk at all when I'm around strangers unless I'm asked a direct question.

Huh, I don't think what I do can be called a victory...
Interesting. I stutter more when I talk way to fast or am nervous. When I think about what I'm going to say, it actually makes it a bit worse. Say I'm ordering ice cream for example. In my head, I'm like, "I'm going to have a chocolate cone." If I keep thinking about it, which I sometimes do, I may stutter when I actually order. Other than that, I can pretty much control it now. I used to have a hard time saying my name, which is pretty weird. My first and last name is only 7 letters combined.

My grandma had epilepsy...it didn't happen often, but when she'd have a seizure her mind would "turn off" and she'd sit there and start shaking. Then people would get her on the ground and make sure she didn't hurt herself for a min or so.

Usually they'd get me out of the room first cause I was a younger kid a lot and she didn't like people seeing her have seizures...

Re: Deepest, darkest secrets you're willing to share about yourself

My cousin actually had a seizure about 10 days ago. He lives with my younger brother and luckily, my brother decided to sleep in the living room because his room didn't have AC. My cousin is a nurse, so he gets home really early, and as he was walking around, apparently he just started having a seizure. If my brother was at work, or was sleeping in his room, I'm not sure what would have happened. But luckily he was there to help him. After my cousin snapped out of it, my brother said my cousin didn't know who he was and was afraid of him.

After having my daughter 15 months ago, I was sharing stores with my coworker when he told me his son suffers from seizures if his temperature gets too high.

I was so scared for my little girl since she just started getting sick. But we're very fortunate that she's a healthy little girl.

I believe its common for toddlers to have seizures due to high temperature. I havent seen it, but my nephew has had that happen a few times, and nobody seems really up in arms about it. If it was my kid, id freak

Re: Deepest, darkest secrets you're willing to share about yourself

*I'm a bipolar agoraphobe, with clinical anxiety and OCD. Most likely due to major head injuries/concussions growing up. I'm legally disabled.*

*I didn't kiss a girl for the first time until I was 19. There were a lot of firsts for me that night. She was my roommates cousin.*

*In HS, I didn't go out, had no interest in it. My friends discovered that if I was drunk I became much more outgoing and friendly. They got me drunk and convinced me to go to a girls basketball game & a dance at the HS after it. After the game, I decided I wasn't quite drunk enough and chugged 151 in the back of my buddies car.

I remember walking inside, talking to a girl I referred to as T-Rex (because of the way she held her arms when she ran down in the court in basketball, arms up to her chest and wrists limp), then waking up strapped to a hospital bed.

From what I was told, I caused quite a scene at the school. My "friends" tried to get me out of there when it became obvious I'd gone overboard, but they couldn't even hold me up to drag me out. So, they abandoned me. I fell at the foot of a cop, and threw up on him. I told the cop I was drunk, but he didn't believe me, thinking I was diabetic or something. I got sicker and sicker, to the point where the assistant principal had to hold my tongue so I wouldn't swallow it. They were holding me in the office and trying to block the windows so the other kids couldn't see.

At the hospital I was supposedly violent and uncontrollable, explaining why I awoke strapped the bed when I got up. Catheters hurt! I only remember it coming out though, I'm told it's much worse going in. Anyway, my step dad says the strangest part of the night was when my mom removed my contacts. He says I just calmed completely and sat there as my eyes were held open and my mom picked them out easily, no resistance whatsoever.

I was an office aide that year, and after my suspension it was pretty awkward going back to that office. It was awkward in general since EVERYONE knew about it. Plus, the office still reeked even after it'd been cleaned*

*and the one I'm most embarrassed about, and have never told another soul:

Are you serious? You're going to laugh at someone's post when they admit to being embarrassed about things they're expressing?

Congratulations. Now please go away. No, you know what, no "please" about it. Just go away.
