 Re: Art/Drawing Thread

Yeah, always been interested in art. It was actually my high school "major" (it's what they called it. We chose between three types of curriculum).

I had drifted away from it, aside from usual doodling, over the past 11 years since, but recently trying some new stuff - namely downloading a random sketchbook app on my iPad and using the generic stylus I have.

Most of the time I prefer sketching actual people or places over cartoon or fantasy elements...and I'm a big fan of standard pencil and paper. I've gotten a feel for sketching on an iPad, but you lose a lot of the fine control you typically have. It's a new experience though.

Here's what I've done over the past few months.

I like and prefer realistic drawings, but also trying to branch out and focus more on sketching quick simple things just so not everything has to be this BIG project in my mind.

I end up with stuff like this...

 Re: Art/Drawing Thread

You shouldnt worry so much.. I think its harder to do realism drawings than it is a cartoon to be honest. I used to do alot of characters in my sleep almost but its the ones where I would draw posters of NBA players and stuff that took the most time. Its so much extra detail that goes into it....look at those pics above, you can't mess up on that and make it look rightComment

 Re: Art/Drawing Thread

Do whatever comes naturally. If it's cartoon, it's cartoon. Not that you should go out of your way to ignore other types of drawing or techniques, but better to do work and enjoy it than force (for lack of a better word) something you're just not feeling right now.

I generally like how they came out, but there's a lot of annoying trial-and-error with an iPad app that's just an obvious part of using an iPad instead of traditional stuff. Almost stopped a few just because it was a roadblock at times.Last edited by SmashMan; 04-25-2013, 01:11 AM.Comment

 Re: Art/Drawing Thread

That's really good man.23 I can't see your pic man, it's not showing up for me.

Drawing used to be my main passion, but as I got older I kind of left it behind. I wanted to be a comic book artist but let the dream all but die. About 10 years ago I got a Wacom tablet but never really learned to use it. Last year I gave it another shot and came up with this:

Nothing major I know, just a quick sketch of my dog trying to get a feel for the tablet. Unfortunately I stopped again but I always have it in the back of my mind to focus on it again. I feel like it would help me a lot, but I just never do it.

This is how I used to draw. I always went for an ultra realistic rendering of things. Never was much of the cartoony type drawer.

Man, this makes me want to draw now lolCubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles
