I've never even heard of, let alone played, a lot of the games you guys have posted. Been pretty much a sports gamer with some survival horror mixed in since I got my original PlayStation back in '97 (Think the 1st 2 games I got for it were NASCAR Racing and NCAA Gamebreaker). Never cared for RPG's or fantasy themed game or whatever genre that Bubsy game is (Bubsy sounds like a character from a show aimed towards 4-5 year olds).

Re: Name That Videogame
Well, since Tim's MIA and I'm back home now...
The discussions today dashed any hopes I had of seeing a screenshot of the Touhou danmaku games...so sad.
But I still have this:Attached FilesComment

Okay, I'll do what I can, I guess.
First hint is another screen, because it'll lead into my worded hints. There's something pretty noticeable when you combine these two shots, and it's what gives this shooter its identity and (mostly) uniqueness.
If we're really going to cut it down to 8 hours per game (someone let me know if I'm misunderstanding that), I won't wait too long in-between hints.Attached FilesComment

Argh. I can picture the game, the Japanese (at least JPN sounding) name but it's on the tip of my tongue and the box art... But the damn name escapes me.
It was on Dreamcast and GC, and possibly on Wii virtual console / XBL / PSN but I don't know about the last 3.

Sorry, got preoccupied with FM and forgot about this thread. Now I will just walk away again as I have no freaking idea what that game is, lol.Comment

Yeah, you're gonna be kicking yourself if you don't get this, for sure.Argh. I can picture the game, the Japanese (at least JPN sounding) name but it's on the tip of my tongue and the box art... But the damn name escapes me.

****.
Uber rattled off pretty much everything I was thinking about saying about this game, except to explain the screenshots - the changing polarities of your ship and being able to absorb bullets with the same color polarity.
The game indeed started on Dreamcast in Japan (and does have a Japanese-sounding name), and was ported to the GameCube (where I first played it), and later XBLA. And if it happens to be on PSN too, I want it dammit! Going to check now.
If no one gets the name before about 8:00 AM central or so, just go Uber - you're close enough.Comment

You sent me to google looking for the answer. I thought that game was older, but it must be because the title is similar to an older game.Yeah, you're gonna be kicking yourself if you don't get this, for sure.

Re: Name That Videogame
I'll go with an easy one since I technically failed myself.
The game was Ikaruga, which I could not remember the name of it for the life of me. feelsbadman.jpg.

An original game which featured very interesting transitions and would be pretty cool to see redone in next-gen graphics.badComment

Re: Name That Videogame
The name of mine was Ikaruga.
Picked it because it is probably my favorite top-down shooter ever (if it isn't, old-school Galaga is), not just for the polarity thing but also for its incredible music.
It's also hard as ****. I sure as hell could never play the game on this difficulty. Fun starts at :40, and pretty much doesn't let up the rest of the way:
