I don't mind being born in 1987 but if I got to choose, I wouldn't mind being born 10-13 years earlier so I could have experienced the 1980s, for a multitude of reasons.
Growing up in the 50s would have been fun too. High time for baseball.Comment

I also don't buy the whole kids don't play outside thing anymore. Throughout all of elementary school Pokemon/Gameboys were huge as well as PS2/Xbox towards the end and we always played like 3-4 hours of football, capture the flag, etc. in Afterschool/Summer Camp over those things. Then in HS we played bball and went to the beach all time.
Just right now as I'm home from college for the summer I can see 8-10 kids playing outside in my parents neighborhood.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: If you could grow up..
I'd like to grow up in the 50's because, based on some movie I saw, people wore fedoras and every woman was happy to clean the house and cook food for their husbands. Kids were never disrespectful and after work a man could sit in his study with his smoking jacket and tumbler of brandy until it was time to retire for the evening. Everything was perfectly perfect.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: If you could grow up..
I was born in 1985, and I was very happy with being a kid in the late 80's and 90's. I get nostalgic about things from my childhood all the time. Was a much simpler time then to me. If I had to choose another time to grow up in though, it would probably be the 50's.Comment

Re: If you could grow up..
Kids still play outside. Where I live they have at least four parks withing 5 miles. Just the other day my oldest hurled after playing on the circle swing over and over.
Human nature hasn't changed. People talk about innocence being lost but I would disagree. There are some factors that put on display works of evil (news, internet), making it look like evil is around every corner. But the quality of life is still there for the taking.
I grew up in the late 70's to mid 80's and had a blast doing it. I would play all day, pretending I was Captain America, Rocky, Gi Joe. My kids do the same thing. Now thye get to record themselves with my old HTC phone. They love it.
The most important thing is for kids to have an environment to where they can enjoy themselves. Yes, I love The Six million Dollar Man, Dukes of Hazzard, Big League Chew and all the other things that were great then, but what's cool now is my sons get to watch the Incredible Hulk series on Netflix and then watch Transformers Prime. They get to take pictures and deform them into all kinds of crazy stuff.
A lot of good is out there now too.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: If you could grow up..
I think being so young for the baseball strike was good. I haven't had to suffer through any pro sports strikes that have bothered me (only the NFL and that didn't cause any games loss so no biggie.)
I honestly don't know what I'd do with myself if there were no baseball season.Comment

Re: If you could grow up..
Good point on baseball. Growing up in the late 80's/early 90's, I would not only have been old enough to see the Blue Jays beat the Braves in the World Series, but I would have been old enough to consider going AND NOT NEED A PASSPORT TO GET BACK IN.Comment
