Killing ants with Grits (or any other cornmeal)?

I have some ants living on my front lawn. I looked online and saw some recommendations for using Quaker Grits (or other cornmeal brands). Just spread it around, and once the ants eat it and it expands - they are supposed to die.

Has anyone tried this? Any other methods fro getting rid of ants?

    Thanks!

If you want to kill them, there are plenty of options around. If you're just trying to get them to flee, ants don't like spices. Cinnamon or cayenne pepper would work. Maybe cumin too?

Anyway, if you can find the source of their entry, run some along there. They'll tell their buddies and hopefully find a new place to colonize. The source is important, though. Barricading it isn't always the best option.

EDIT: Oh, it's your front lawn? Don't know what to say, then.

If grits don't kill'em, I could send you some of my mother-in-laws' meatloaf,
      that oughta do it.

        Haha....

Yeah, its the front lawn (there are a couple of anthills there). I find a couple of them inside the house every now and then, but nothing major. I'll try to find where they're getting inside from. I assume those are the same ones that I find in front of their house (it's hard to say...they all look the same to me, no racism).

I'll try what you said. I'll give a shot to whatever works.

If you can locate the ant hills, boil some water and pour it down the hole.

Yeah, will try. I just hope I can get the water all the way down. I don't know how deep it goes.

just buy some poison, you have to kill the queen or the colony will just move

                    Listen closely. USE THIS!!!!!!!!!!

It only takes one tablespoon per mound so this stuff last a while. But talk about work, the entire mound in one day will look like a internal bomb went off. The mound will be all cracked and exploded out looking.

I have tried grass spreads for the yard, they don't really do much and are expensive. A good poison are key and I've tried a bunch, this is the only one I can swear by.

I had ants when I first moved in, but the pest control company took care of them. Spiders on the other hand, I think I kill about one a night.

I've had success with Ortho Home Defense. Some people don't, but I had issues with spiders and a few other bugs making it inside. I put that down last year and almost all bugs never made it inside.

We've had 2 scorpions in the past week...have to get the exterminator to come back and spray.

Mostly just cause they're all more active in summer I think...hopefully that'll take care of it.
