I am not a body builder but I do lift weights to stay in shape and feel good. I don't lift heavy weights just what's comfortable for me.

I used to body build but now I am just a recreational lifter to stay in shape.

Yeah there are a few lifters in the Annual All Accompanying Fitness thread, some that lift heavy, some that lift just to stay in shape.

I've only really truly been lifting with any knowledge for about a year now, I started earlier but didn't know anything about nutrition, and proper lifting technique I was just throwing some weights around. I haven't been able to work out recently though as I've sprained my wrist, and I probably have to wait another 2-4 weeks to let it heal which sucks, but I've already re-aggravated it once.

If someone is just starting out with Lifting weights, and they want to do it for aesthetics or just to bulk up, I would definitely tell them get your nutrition 100% on point first. You won't see the kind of gains you're looking for unless your calorie intake is correct, and you have your macro intake right.

Seems like a good place to ask this:

When you are bench pressing and the bar is down, do you keep your elbows flared out to the side (away from your body) and push up, or do you keep your elbows in tight near your sides and push up? I'm finding mixed answers on this over the net =/

I've been doing the latter and have found my arms feel like they have gotten a better work out, so I'm assuming that is the correct form.

Also, is there a schedule for how much weight you should be adding every week or 2?

                    Thanks!

p.s. What up mizzou! You still in the guard?

Keep in mind form can differ slightly person to person. But I think the most universely used arm angle for the bench press is 45 degrees. Basically in between flared out and all the way into the body. I find if I flare out all the way to about 90 degrees it works the shoulders too much instead of the chest. On the other end of the spectrum if I go too close it works too much tricep. So if you're doing bench for chest stimulation (which is the main muscle the flat bench press is meant to work) a 45 degree flare is best, at least for me. You'll still get some front delt and tricep stimulation though.

What up man yeah still in the army. Lol. As far as bench pressing.. Basiclly like the guy said above.. If u go close grip ur gonna hit the triceps. Too far out does hit the shoulders but still hits the chest.. I find the shoulders get tore up a lot on incline but inclines Are where u are gonna get the most development.. Building the upper pec makes them pop like crazy! I do 2-3 incline workouts and one flat bench and some high rep blood volume stuff after that usually flys or cable flys.

Also you should always be trying to add more weight.. Better yourself every week if u can!

There is never a reason to Bench with your elbows all the way out, Bench should either work Triceps, or Chest not Shoulders. If you bench with a wide wing span you will Tear a rotator cuff, and really damage your Shoulder joint at the Heavier weights.

So my baby's momma's brother is 13 years old, about 5'9ish and looks like a stick. He asked me to take him to the gym so I did.

Now he says he is interested in going often, but his dad told him working out with weights and such is bad for him because he is young.

Is it true? He is lifting weights that are heavy to him, but it isn't like I'm trying to kill him or anything? Thoughts?
