    Should be fine as long as he's not lifting heavy and is using good form. Although with anything new, I'd ease into it with body weight work first.

    The argument I've heard against weight for younger kids is that it could affect their growth plates.

      Yea I just did some basic lifting for him, some flat and incline DB press, so,e shoulder lifting and some butterflies. Just trying to get him used to it and learn how to lift.

        I don't even do flat bench-press anymore. I have ridiculously long arms but not a thick chest.
        So if the bar touches my chest, my elbows are about 4" below my back.
        That's an awesome way to shred the shoulders.
        Recently, I've been using the decline, with a towel and bar pad wrapped around the centre of the bar. This forces my elbows to stop-short to prevent any damage to my shoulders.

        One area where I've really struggled is squats.
        I love them, but they're killing my knees.
        I was on the Madcow program (awesome program BTW!), but I've had to take 2 weeks off now because my knees are hurting so freakin' much.
        The program was going very well, but once I got the point where I had added 50lbs to my max 5-rep squat*, the knees started to take a bad toll.
        I might have to reset and go back to lighter weights to make sure my form is proper, but at this point, and at nearly 40 years of age, I'm starting to second guess going heavy weights, low reps all the time.
        You build crazy strength, but your joints take a beating.

        I'm probably going to continue doing full-body workouts, but lighter weights and only a rep range of 8 to 10.
        I've really enjoyed moving from a traditional split-routine to full-body. Great stuff.

        And trust me, I'm no genetic freak. I'm a tall, naturally thin person and nearly 40.
        I also don't take any supplements or really follow a strict nutrition plan.
        I'd highly recommend this program to anyone that's looking to build strength quick.
        It's super easy and really does work.
        I imagine a 20-something, who watches what they eat, and consumes some sort of supplement ala Whey Protein, would flourish on this program. Especially if they had good genes.

        Great advice to use his own bodyweight at this stage in his life; pushups, chinups, boxsquats, etc.
        There is some evidence to suggest that early exposure to lifting, before the person's body has finished growing, can harm their growth.
        With anything, perform in moderation.
