I've been lucky and only had one bad experience with a car salesman at a dealership. It was about 11 years ago and this sales guy was really pushing this car on me (I forget the make and model). I needed a car but it wasn't worth what he was asking for it. The car had some scratches on it, didn't even have a CD player, and needed the serpentine belt replaced. He wouldn't know anything off or fix the belt and kept bugging me about that car. I walked off the lot and for 3 days in a row he called at 3pm and 7pm asking me if I wanted the car. Finally I got a little pissy with him and said the car was a bad deal, that I wasn't interested, and to never call me again. I ended up getting something elsewhere that was a much better deal and painless.

Since then I've actually bought two different cars at that same dealership where the idiot worked at but I've never seen him since that day. I doubt he lasted long in car sales.
This one seems picky depending on the car. On mine, it takes all of 5 minutes and maybe $10 to replace the belt. In that situation, you could do it just easily yourself (and probably quicker). But as I said, depends on the car.

I don't really have one, but a high school buddy of mine does.

He received a $2.75 million signing bonus after getting drafted. He put the money away with one caveat - he was going to buy himself a BMW.

He is looking on the lot, by himself. All of 18, the salesman slow walks out to him. He was obviously not taking him seriously and basically blew him off. My buddy left and went to another dealership.

He bought a BMW there. He then drove back to the other dealership and requested to speak to the General Manager.

The salesman was apologetic and kicking himself, obviously... Lesson learned by him. Don't judge a book by its cover. He lost a sale and a nice commission that day.

He's been out of baseball for around five or six years now... Unfortunately, he never made it past AA. Twins fans probably remember him well.

He was smart with his cash but that isn't the same kind of change it was 15-20 years ago.

Here's the moral of the story. I now own a 2013 Chevy Sonic. Better car. Lower interest rate. 5 year warranty same large payment much more car. I test drove it while it had nine miles. I pulled it out of the lot with 20 miles. It feels great. I kinda wanna take it to the jerk dealership and show them.

Unless they give 0% for 60 months (I got that from Hyundai before) you are better off going the cash route.
