Are there jobs on campus you could get? I worked in the kitchen of one of the food places and went to school full time.

Re: Welp, I'm in trouble
Yeah I'd at least check with some campus jobs or work study.
I went full time and worked 2 jobs and that crap wasn't easy but it was normal life, especially since i could schedule my classes right.
Military is not always the only option, it'll just take some thought but you can make it man.Comment

He's already a full-time student.
DukeC, can you do anything on a computer? There are a lot of things you can do to make some bread on the internet.Comment

Re: Welp, I'm in trouble
That long *** line at the DMV tho.
Wrong attitude to have. If you want it, then you will stand in it. Without ID, it will be hard for you to get anything.

Re: Welp, I'm in trouble
Sorry to hear all of this, Duke. I know a kid in a similar situation, and there's not really an easy decision to make.
First things first, though. I would look for a job on campus. There's almost always something available.Writer for Operation Sports

See that's the thing Phobia, I am in school. I go to Grambling. I live in my great-grandparents house that's literally 2 blocks away from the school.
I don't go anywhere (because I don't want to waste her gas money), I barely eat anything (so I don't waste all the food in the house), and I even helped her get the car that she's currently driving with my refund check.
Do you remember when I had to drop out of the Madden league Phobia? That's because we hit a particular rough patch and I had to sell my all of my **** just so we could have bread on the table. And damn it I'd do it again.
But what kills me is she says I don't do anything and she's actively trying to kick me out.
I've stated this before on here but yea I grew up poor also and going to school in the hood, my middle school was literally in the middle of the projects(is that even how u spell it lol)
Anyway long story short my parents didn't have money to buy me much so my first car I bought and just about all my own clothes. So I know what it means to struggle but one thing it did was motivate me to get the hell out and shape my own life different.
I couldn't go to college right out of highschool that was not a option, I jumped in the oilfield and started making money. I then went on to buy my own house and go back to college when I was 29.
I'm not saying my way is the only way, what I'm saying is you got to address how to survive and in this country that takes money. You are 19, no one is going to do it for you, you have to take the bull by the horns and handle your ****.
@Fly - I think it was a fair assessment it did not sound like he was in school. Also with him being a legal adult I don't even think his mom could ship him off if he did not consent.
Now I do think with everything stated, the military might be best for Duke

Re: Welp, I'm in trouble
Sorry to hear that you're having some troubles, but i've been there man. It's not until in recent years have things started to look up for my family, but that's not because it was handed to us you gotta go find it. Go get some form of ID and then apply for every single job you can find, money is money. The school excuse is kind of weak excuse cause plenty of people in my cohort work jobs in addition to our 16 credit schedules combined with an entire day in an elementary school a week. There's gotta be jobs somewhere in town and if not see if any buses are in the area that you can use if they are too far away.
Look into loans for school if you haven't already, i've had everything i've needed covered each semester through loans, grants, etc. If you've already put time and $$ into schooling you might as well do your best to finish, that is if you're interested in getting a degree(I know some people aren't).Last edited by Chrisksaint; 08-02-2013, 10:52 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Agreed. Her frustration (warranted or not) is being misdirected.Comment

Re: Welp, I'm in trouble
If I was you Duke, I'd be going to every store or restaurant in your town. Go to every single one, and tell them you'll do anything for whatever they're willing to pay you. Tell them you'll be the manager's personal toe nail clipper; whatever gets you a job. Keep going back to the places that even show a shred of interest and shake their hand, remind them you're still interested in working for them.
Like Phobia said, anything is better than nothing. Then once you have a job of some sort, you can start looking for a little better job to show the folks that you have some ambition.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey
