Banksy
Has anyone been following this whole thing in NYC? I think it's pretty funny and amazing. He's been in NYC for the month. And post some new every day he's been here.

Re: Banksy
I don't care about Banksy, and am tired of hearing about him in news articles or news shows. If I were to do what he did I'd get arrested, not paid tons of money. I get that he has talent, but just can't stand people talking all like it's amazing he's in the US.Has anyone been following this whole thing in NYC? I think it's pretty funny and amazing. Re: Banksy
^My thoughts exactly. He's been doing this for awhile, just not over the past month. He's a tagger and should be treated as such. He, along with other reasons/factors, is a reason we see graffiti all over our neighborhoods and cities. Sick of these guys getting their fame from this... Which is exactly what they strive for.

Re: Banksy
I for one appreciate his and other street artists work. I do however understand the issues others would have against it.Comment

Re: Banksy
I'm no art guy at all. But I think what makes it pretty nice. Is his messages in the art. I think that is cool. I understand why some people don't like it. But I also think it's funny how the same people that say he's a tagger and all that other nonsense. Are the same people that would buy/sale work if they had the chance to.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

I don't mind people with actual talent making a brick or cement wall look a little cooler.Comment

Re: Banksy
Yeah, the hypocrisy annoys me. These rich people pay tens of thousands for his work and then whine like little girls when some "street artist" tags some wall in their exclusive neighborhood.I'm no art guy at all. I get that I'm in the minority, all this hype just bugs me for some reason.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Banksy
Some guys in Brooklyn took advantage of those very same rich folks you speak of by charging them $20 to take a photo of his work.
The issues of gentrification, exploitation & good old fashioned bamaboozlement have come together hilariously, or tragically, in Brooklyn thanks to Banksy.
He has been doing this for a long time. Mainstream media is just now taking notice. I do know the hype surrounding him right now has caused backlash within the street art community against him. Labeling him as a sell out. Which is ridiculous but also comes with success and mainstream exposure.I get that I'm in the minority, all this hype just bugs me for some reason.Comment

Re: Banksy
Idk, It's not like he's tagging places such as the World Trade Center or Times Square. If I owned a small pizza restaurant and he tagged, i'd be perfectly fine with it. But if I was the curator of a museum, then it would be an issue.
In Baton Rouge there's an old abandoned pier that serves as a hangout for teenage high school kids and LSU students that grew up in the area. It's still kind a bit of a secret so if you go there during the day there's a good chance you'll be the only person there. It's been overtaken by taggers and is covered in spraypaint. A lot of it IS "Johnny Loves Kate 3-14-11 <3" and various wanna be gangs tags...and twitter handles...which I mmayyyyyyy be guilty of...but there's a lot of talented pictures and pieces which were on canvas would fetch a good bit of money. But the thing is you can go there one day and see a picture you really like, and the next week it will be tagged over. It was SUPPOSED to be taken down, but I'm starting to think the city officials realize that having a "safe place" (don't walk there in open toed shoes) is a good way to contain it.
First two pictures are mine, the rest are from http://www.travelrinserepeat.com/aba...n-baton-rouge/ or just google

Re: Banksy
Here is the thing I want to say about those guys in brooklyn. I'm from Brooklyn myself. Born and raised here (and still here). That video is in a neighborhood right next to my hood (East New York/Bushwick). What people don't understand about that video is that neighborhood is mostly Black/Hispanic. You rarely see white people there (recently). Especially people who are not from the NYC. I know friends who consider these places "danger zone". But Banksy draws something on a wall. And people come out of the woods to see it and take pictures. And a place no one wanted to go before....becomes super popular. All Banksy did was spray paint on a wall. Some guys in Brooklyn took advantage of those very same rich folks you speak of by charging them $20 to take a photo of his work.

Re: Banksy
I just dont care about him. Ive had people I know from out of town ask me if Ive gone to see the Banksy art around the city; couldnt be bothered. I think he gets too much burn for tagging walls; I dont really have an issue with him though.Comment
