I know it's popular to say that Sanders was all alone in Detroit but that's just not so. He may not have had a good O-line (save for Lomas Brown) but during his tenure in Detroit they had Herman Moore, Chris Spielman, Robert Porcher, and Bennie Blades. Granted 3 of the four I mentioned are defensive players but the OP said overall.

I wish I could like this a million times over. Carlton was basically the only guy of worth on that squad. He definitely deserved his Cy Young Award that year.

EDIT: forgot to name someone of my own. Wendel Clark before the Gilmour trade. Clark was surrounded by a ton of garbage on the Leafs which forced him to be his own enforcer at times. That guy shortened his career big time by being the only weapon the Leafs had for a while.

I was going to say Giancarlo, but instead I'll say this:

He's not a superstar yet (at least in the NFL), but in a few years it'll be Tavon Austin, especially if Sam Bradford is still the QB. He was human napalm at WVU, and if we didn't need the help on defense so badly I'd pay an arm and a leg to have him on the Saints.

Tony Gwynn... In the 80s and early 90s. Later, they added players like Vaughn, Caminiti, Finley and Kevin Brown but it was brutal for awhile... Still is I guess... :banghead:

LOL at this. Guy is awful.

Right now it's gotta be AP over all.

Sport specific though. Gotta be Felix Hernandez in baseball, and right now in basketball there could be some arguments made more multiple players depending on who you consider superstars. Cousins and Wall come to mind right off the bat.

Wouldn't the fact that he will have Bradford already eliminate him?

If you go off name recognition, I guess. Bradford's never really been good. Even going back to college he's been overrated

Dale Murphy on some of the Braves teams in the 80s.

King Felix and Jones Drew are the first two that come to mind.

I don't think basketball players should be eligible in the conversation. You can actually have moderate success with very little talent surrounding one star player.

                              Christian Benteke.

But seriously, it's gotta be AP, although it's tough to tell because AP himself isn't having a great year and is in that danger zone area for running backs.

                                I meant right now, lol.

I was thinking about Felix. He's got nobody. At least Wright has Harvey and Harvey has Wright. At least Stanton has Fernandez and Fernandez has Stanton.

Felix has been arguably the best pitcher in the league for what, the last four years? Guy has NOTHING around him.

And I was thinking about Peterson but Jared Allen is one of the best defensive players in the league so I don't know if he's *as* alone as some of the others suggested. Though, 2 guys out of 53 is nothing.
