    ACL Tear

I tore my ACL around 2 months ago and have been working hard on rehabbing, I am in college so have postponed my surgery until, christmas break since I couldn't afford to miss class. However just today, while loosening my knee up on the staniory bike I began to feel pain. Wasn't even going that fast on it but stopped at 5 mins. Today it hurts just walking, has anyone else been in this predicament? I guess I've been having a tough go with it since the way I tore me and my buddies play intramural basketball and basically I made a move cutting to the basket it just blew out, so of course I never hear the end of it. Just gets old..

I tore the ACL in my right knee on a jump stop playing pickup ball '08. I didn't attempt to rehab it before the surgery, but I know that if your ACL is already completely torn there is no rehab that will be able to give your knee reliable stability. Your knee can give out on you at any time until you get the surgery.

It's completely tore, so their having me strengthen the muscles around it. But I'm I guessing that the pain is from the ACL itself and to be expected until I get the surgery.

Yeah, it's from not having the surgery yet. I tore mine in 2011, just taking a defender one on one (soccer) and had cleats on in astro-turf field, my foot got stuck and there you go.

You're going to get those sharp pains until you have the surgery. I made the mistake of thinking it was just a knee strain and played in the next game. I lasted 10 minutes before my knee literally gave out - I just fell down - and the dull, mixed with sharp, pain took over.

It's kind of funny how it happens... Suddenly you're on your *** like what just happened? Then you feel it.

Good luck. I can't relate personally, but my brother tore his PCL playing basketball back in August and he's been going through rehab but now might have to have surgery. We'll see. But best of luck to you and I hope it gets better soon.

I tore mine playing basketball too. First doctor said it was just a knee bruise. Didn't find out until it was torn until like 4 months later! There was sharp pain but I think mainly because I tore my meniscus as well. Good luck with your recovery.

Yea, after I tore mine I sat out for about 10 minutes and my knee started to feel a little less bad so I started talking myself into it just being a sprain so I went back in and tried to play and within 30 seconds of playing my knee gave out again.

I also didn't have surgery for a couple months and yea I can remember a couple of times feeling a sharp pain. Never during physical therapy or anything, just walking around a couple of times I took an awkward step or something and then felt pain.

Yup, spot on. What a really **** feeling it is! It's misleading. You feel like you can do it - then bam!

I remember I used to spend so much time trying to jog and kick (to prepare for the next game) and then got a brace on - yeah, nothing helped and the sharp pain was there everytime I kicked. Even after surgery it took me about 6 months to truly be able to kick - but I had to work out my legs like crazy before since I had the hamstring-graft.

Its funny I went to the health services on our campus, the nurse said it was fine and just a strain, After 3 days I was like this is no strain my knee is the size of a grapefruit so I went to a real doctor, later I find out it is a full tear.

For me, I remember the first day or two wasn't bad at all. I think some of the drugs they gave me for during the surgery took a long time to wear off. Then there were a few days it was really painful, and then a week after surgery the pain really suddenly went away. From then on it wasn't bad, much more mild soreness.

                          Good luck.

I actually had no idea you could go months on a tore ACL....as I posted a year back I completely destoyed my knee....complete ACL tear, Microfracture and a complete meniscus tear in the same knee...so I guess I cant offer any individual advice as all my crap was kindve lumped into one big deal...

I would just say PLEASE be consistent with your rehab, dont give up...it can get discouraging but building muscle and properly rehabbing is the key to getting better...
