DirecTV hasn't really dropped anything as far as I know. There's always a stupid battle between the provider and the networks and yada yada yada it ends up resolved.

I used to love watching Weather Channel when I was younger but honestly, apps and Twitter have pretty much made it obsolete.

I wish somebody would figure out a way to do a more buffet style channel subscription. I know there are limitations with there being channel families and the way contracts are correctly structured, but if I could just get HBO, local stations, and a few other hand-picked stations I wouldn't care about 200+ channels.

I am old enough to remember when it was only ONE HBO, Showtime and Cinemax. Starz and Encore wasn't invented yet. Cable was a lot simpler back then. As a child growing up in Chicago, HBO was channel 17, Showtime was channel 18 and Cinemax was channel 24.

Problem with cable now it is too many sub channels.

5 HBO
5 Cinemax
5 Showtime
5 Starz
5 Encore
4 ESPN
2 VH1
2 MTV
2 Disney
2 Nickelodeon

Just too much considering most of the time on the sub channels they don't ever show anything good on it. And I have no idea why they have so many music channels. Do anybody ever listen to those channels ? I mean really.

At midnight tonight if no deal is struck, TWC is looking for something like 13 cents per subscriber, which amounts to ~$30m/year, probably to help them fund all the reality TV they've been cranking out.

DirecTV already has Weather Nation in place as an alternative.

What specifically about the Weather Channel will you be missing? Thought they lost much of their usefulness as 'The Weather Channel' when all I could catch was reality shows whenever I'd turn to it the last year or two it seems.

With the plethora of other connected devices for the weather now the desperation in TWC's pleas are comical. If they really want like $30m/year from DirecTV then I have little doubt they're gone for good or will have to cave significantly.

Well I'll miss the weather aspect especially during hurricane season. I also like some of the reality shows. They do 2 of them about my job and I was on one of them. I also like some of their mini series like Strangest Weather on Earth

But they show the weather at the bottom and you have the local on the 8s. That guy makes it seem like they never show the weather.

I didn't know people still used that channel.

I can google the forecast here in about 3 seconds if I want. Hell, I have a widget for it on my phone.

It helped when we were trying to avoid that Tropical Storm a few months ago. Your phone doesn't work in the middle of the ocean and internet can be spotty so we watched TWC. I know our CO watched it a lot and used the tracking they were showing plus some other stuff we get from the Navy and such.

I dont know much about this other weather channel but Id like to stick with what I know and trust.

I remember when the weather channel was all weather all the time. When I was still in high school I'd watch it for local weather and tropics, but nowadays I just go to their website.

I would assume they do reality shows now since you can get weather whenever you want plus to make more money. At least thats what makes sense to me.
