Re: Off Topic 2014
Soooo... question. I can't actually believe I'm asking this, but apparently it's not as obvious as I thought:
Bears got the ball late in the first half, 2 seconds left on their 14. They took a knee, which, in my mind, down 42-0 as they were, is the smart football play. But one of my buddies who's watching the game with me starts talking about how they're giving up, yadda, yadda, basically saying that they should take a shot at the endzone down 42. This leads to a very long discussion that went basically nowhere, but, I'll pose the question to you guys. Do you sit on the ball, or try to take a shot that probably won't work in a game that's pretty much gone?
This isn't Madden. On a play that there's a 99% chance you don't score, keep your players healthy. That matters in real life.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Yeah, I can't be mad at the people who got him. Had they been the store before and just passed him up, then that's one thing... however, apparently they had driven over and hour to come and get him and were as upset then as I was afterwards.
Honestly, I can't even be that mad at the adoption people because I imagine that a lot of people fill out an app and end up changing their mind, so they're just looking to do what's best for the dog.
It just sucked because it was like getting a Christmas preset as a kid, playing with it for awhile, then realizing that it was meant for someone else. In the end, I know that we can save another dog in the future, and we will, but it we'll just wait until it's a better time for us now.
Is there a local SPCA or rescue shelter you guys can check out? I've always been leery of the chain stores and their adoptions even though they do work with local shelters.
So, I'm doing the whole mortgage process/look for a ****ty house in our budget thing. With our RD loan there is an appraisal arranged by the mortgage company in addition to the normal inspection. To limit my OOP expenses on this adventure I conveyed to my loan officer to hold off on ordering the appraisal and credit check until after the inspection just to be sure we would get the house.
The house inspection was last Tuesday. The major drawbacks were the roof needed immediate replacement, the panel box was only 100amps, there was a crack in the foundation, and the garage needed to be finished in order to house a vehicle. We decided to walk.
This morning I'm checking my credit card and there's a charge on there for $430 from this mortgage office. $30 for the credit check and the rest is for the appraisal that has never happened and will never happen on this property. I've emailed my loan officer to ask her why it's been charged already and am waiting to hear back, but I'm thinking I need to either wait until Ashleigh can sign with me (will be February - she has a special situation with her parents and their house) and also go to another loan officer most likely at a bank. I've never been sold on the RD stuff anyway because I feel like I can get more house on less expensive monthly payments on other types of loans.

My wife actually wants to start fostering shelter dogs. We have plenty of room inside, a huge backyard, other dogs for them to play with, etc. However, I know once we got them we wouldn't want to give them up, so I know it's a bad idea. We'll definitely get one from a shelter in the future. As much as I like certain types of dogs and would love to have them, I know that saving one from living (or dying) in a shelter is more important.

Re: Off Topic 2014
Yeah, we rescued our last two dogs from a shelter. We weren't actually going into PetSmart looking to get a dog, it just kind of happened. Most of the dogs there were rescued from shelters and being fostered, until finding a home. This particular one was staying at the vet and hated being kenneled so that another reason we wanted to help him. Plus, we figured most people want puppies not 6 year old dogs, but this wasn't the case for this guy.

Wow, that is horrible. Did you have to sign paperwork to get the appraisal? I know that they can't just pull your credit with signing consent. It sounds like they just took your application and ran with it. I don't know if there's anything you can do, but I would try fighting it.

Re: Off Topic 2014
I might miss the response, but just wanted to comment on the 100 amps. I'm building a new house and it is only going to have 100 amp service. If you have/will be putting in natural gas range and water heater and only have 1 A/C unit, 100 is beyond enough. And if I were to ever put some bigger tools in the garage, I'd still be fine unless it was a hot summer day and my A/C, dishwasher, clothes dryer, big electronics and tools were all going at the same time. Then he said you might trip something depending on the draw from the tools. I considered 200 but the money was better spent elsewhere.

Went to Target and traded it in!
And not sure what the guy was doing or did, but I ended up with $52 on the gift card!I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Fortunately I made my way back to the electronics department where things looked a lot more civilized and I got $40 for a game I spent 60 hours on. Awesome.
