Re: Off Topic 2014
I hate series finales of tv shows. As well written as they are, just sucks to watch them and then realizing that this is it for that show. No more new episodes, you won't see this cast together again, show isn't relevant anymore and watching reruns isn't as fun as it was when the show was still airing new episodes. And many times, within a few months of the show ending, the channel that airs it no longer airs reruns of the episode either.
I know you could just easily go on the internet and find the reruns, but it really isn't the same as just tuning into TV one day during a commercial break of one show(or intermission/halftime of a game), and briefly watching a rerun of another show I liked.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
HIMYM ending next month for example,I doubt I'm ever gonna really watch reruns again anyways(might check it out every now and then just cause I miss it lol), but just knowing it's still on today feels alot diff than it's gonna feel in just over a month when the show ends.
Speaking of TV shows...the one thing I miss is the days of having tv families. Throughout history there have been many shows that featured TV families on shows everyone in the family could enjoy. I know there's stuff today like Modern Family, but aside from that, there's not much else anywhere else on TV that features shows on that type of level.
TV today it's just about crime/murder mysterys, dramas, reality shows, and comedy shows today even try to incorporate those drama/reality show type of themes into storylines(either that,or they try too hard to be relatable to pop culture)Last edited by Majingir; 02-20-2014, 12:24 AM.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
Futurama is somewhat diff though(at least for me) cause when I first started watching, the show already ended. The return stuff was good to have, but with episodes only coming out in the summer, I never really missed it that much when it was gone again, cause I knew it for more years as a show that ended than a show that was currently happening.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Off Topic 2014
I still think there is. The "series finale" seemed set up so that if it was the end, it'd make sense, but if there was ever a chance for it to return, they'd have something to work with. FOX lost Cleveland Show and American Dad is moving networks. Who knows how long Family Guy will be on. So I'm hoping maybe Fox will bring Futurama back and put it on their Sunday night lineup. After all...last time Futurama was on Fox, it had a 7pm Sunday timeslot(so it competed against 60 minutes which was getting HUGE ratings back then, AND the overrun of the Sunday football games) so with a better timeslot, they could do much better, especially with an already established fanbase(combined with mainstream network tv exposure)Comment

The 80s moved away from that to a more nuclear family (Cosby Show, Married... With Children, Roseanne, Full House, Growing Pains, etc.)
The 90s became more about politics and lifestyles (Friends, Simpsons, Frasier, Seinfeld, Murphy Brown, etc.)
The 00s (starting with Survivor in 2000) saw the rise of the "Reality TV" programs that kinda killed sitcoms for a while. However the ones on now (HIMYM, IASP, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Bang Theory) are more about pop culture in general and trying to push the envelope slightly where they can.
Eventually there will be family sitcoms back on TV.badComment

Reminds me of a barely related convo I was having the other night with the gf. I'm tired of the current cycle/trend of movies and TV series where the final scene is open ended. It seems everything I watch these days I'm left thinking "That's it?"

For the veterans who may know him from back in the day I had a bit of a conversation on FB with Nivek last night. Guy is doing good for himself these days living Downtown and everything.
Anywho, that's about it LOL though in regards to TV/Movies ending with open ended scenes it's all about the money and future opportunities. Nothing can be finally put to rest because there's "always" a chance for a reunion or a movie or whatnot.

Today we don't really have many things like those. The closest things this "generation" had to those types of shows are finished already too.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2014
Well, yeah its a cartoon, but that doesn't mean it can't be a sitcom. That'd be like saying black & white movies can't be westerns.
I feel like family sitcoms haven't really been a legitimate contender for ratings since the early 90s and the TGIF block. Plus, there's the **** on TBS and Disney. Granted its mostly elementary stuff, but its not like there's nothing out there. Not to mention it seems like there is at least 3 or 4 new family sitcoms every year that all ultimately get the ax (Tim Allen, Michael J. Fox, **** My Dad Says, etc). Goldbergs comes to mind as a new one with potential.

It's a cyclical business. The 70s sitcoms were focused around the workplace quite a bit (M*A*S*H, Taxi, Bob Newhart Show, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Laverne & Shirley, etc.)
The 80s moved away from that to a more nuclear family (Cosby Show, Married... With Children, Roseanne, Full House, Growing Pains, etc.)
