I hadn't read this thread in a day or so.

I missed out on headscratchers and a little delusion.

Why would you take your phone out on a canoe with you? Seems like a bad idea from the start.

Need advice from the car people in here.

My friends 99 escort isn't getting any power and won't start. Not even a click or lights turning on. We thought it was the battery at first obviously. So we hooked up the jumper cables and got lights, and it started. We took the battery and had it tested (it's less than 3 years old). They said it checked out and the battery wasn't bad or dead, but put it on a charger for an hour anyways. Said it was probably the starter or alternator. Took it back and put it in the car. Hooked it up tight and didn't even get a light to turn on.

With a full battery I want to think it's not the alternator. The fact we are getting no lights makes me thinks it's still the batter and not the starter. I don't know anything about cars though.

Are your battery terminals corroded? I would clean them and the battery cables first before doing anything else.

You can buy a battery terminal cleaning kit for less than $10 typically at any auto parts store.

Check the main battery fuse. Sounds like it's blown.

One of them was caked in white powder. The first time we tried to jump it didn't work. Then I looked closer and the jumper cable clamps were mostly dug into the white. I moved them to another part and it fired right up. Once we took the battery out I then blew it off. It was dark last night when we got the battery back, but my friend connected the battery back this morning and she thought they might have cleaned then when they charged it last night. Will have to take a closer look when I get back to the car later today.

Either it was able to fire up with it being caked in this powder. Could it fire up with a blown fuse on a jump?

I can assure you it is a bad idea. I'm always careful about that stuff but it was late in the night and I was deep in the game.

My coworker hooked it up with a free (better) phone. But damn, goodbye all those pictures and music. My computer is a brick too so I can't even sync my music back up.

I swear if Verizon plays games when I go to activate this new phone, we're gonna be scrapping. I'm prepared to take my business elsewhere.

That white powder is acid, don't let that powder get on your clothes, it will fade them. Get a wire brush and scrub those terminals clean.

Sounds like your flange hose is radiated. Might need a new exhaust piston or maybe a transmission converter. Go to your mechanic and ask them for that next time you get your brake pad fluid changed.

I assume that's all the car part words you know randomly thrown together.

Sad thing is those all sound like things that could actually exist to me. I'm just glad I know a good mechanic who won't rip me off.
