found out that I have to have yet another procedure to rid myself of kidney stones/scar tissue.

The procedure is a ureteroscopy. Its highly unpleasant and the aftermath is horrible. Walking around with a stint in a sensitive area for 3 weeks is pure hell.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I think that's a false dichotomy. Unfortunately though, it's not an unfair point. There are respectful and appropriate ways to cover something like this. They could have contacted the family and asked for their input on how they could have best covered this story, but of course that's not going to happen because why waste your time on some no name center from the MAC when there's money to be made off of guys like Manziel? The very least they could have done was to do what they normally do when they report on deaths- a few moments of silence then cut to commercial- rather than carrying on with business as usual when it's clearly not business as usual. Sickens me.

But this just seems like picking on ESPN for the sake of nothing. Trust me we all know they have their flaws but, not for the sake of being morbid, people die every day. I'm sure the family of this young man have bigger worries then how much time their son's death got on Espn.

Ouch. Just reading that makes me cringe. Good luck CB.

Kent State put out a release. Without interviewing anybody, ESPN could have used some of that information to humanize the kid instead of using him as a lead-in to Braxton Miller. And if ESPN wanted to do some work, I'm sure his coach, and at least some of his teammates, would have welcomed the opportunity to talk about him.

It wasn't too hard for Cleveland.com:

The problem is that it's not just ESPN but rather media as a whole. As members of the media it's their job to report on things like this in a respectful manner. Media ethics (or the lack thereof) can kind of get me fired up and ESPN was, in my opinion, extremely unethical and inappropriate in their coverage of this tragedy. As CB said he was pretty much used as a lead in which is possibly the worst production choice you could make in that situation.

I don't think that was ESPN's choice, rather it had more to do with Everett trying to make a point about media coverage (overcoverage) in general.

The fact that they had the Manziel/Miller graphic cued up immediately is almost a sure sign that it was planned and scripted to put that story directly following the Bitsco coverage. This was not a choice made by Everett but made by the producers. Otherwise Everett would not have said that with the voice inflection that he did.

Again I know that, but I'm saying it wasn't the networks choice. Rather it was the anchor's choice.

Scripting and planning on a large show like that is generally done by producers. Not by the anchor. So unless I'm missing something, this was not Everett's choice.

Not sure if anyone still keeps up with the new episode of Mythbusters, but the three build team people are leaving the show. Last night was their last episode they would be on.

I would expect a local media outlet to have more in-depth coverage on a story like this.

Though, I do see some of the points being brought up. I guess I just have a lower standard or don't notice the fact that the story was used as a lead-in.

Agreed. I don't expect them to go in-depth. I was just pointing out that it was possible to get reaction without prying.

If they had put the Bitsko news on directly before a commercial break and added the reaction from either the AD or coach, it would have been fine, IMHO.
