Ordered a pair of these as I don't want to injure anyone.

        Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I guess I had tricked myself into believing it hadn't been that long since I had actually been a gym. The DOMS are ridiculous this week! I was talking with my wife last night about it after my workout (I'll post that below in a minute) and we figured out it had been at least 7 months since I had actually gone to a gym and lifted weights.

So, what that means for me is that the focus on the short-term is to rebuild my muscle endurance. My one-set strength is still pretty decent, thanks to all the years I had lifted weights in the past, but when I get to that 2nd, 3rd and 4th set, the number of reps with the same weight drastically decreases.

I'll still do a heavy day (3x5-6 reps), but will do a light day (2x15) and a mid-range day (3x10-12) to get the muscles used to working again.

As mentioned, I hit the gym after work last night and did a 2x15 day

Good choice in shoes. Yeah, cleats would be a bad idea. I know there were instances in the Spartan Race where my feet would have been literally in someones face, so they would have caughten a spike in the eye. All you need for these types of races are a good pair of trail running shoes.

One warning though. Don't fall in love with the shoes, as they'll likely be mangled at the end of the race.

Start running hills. I did that one last year and it was brutal. Weather should be better that time of year though.

Started the year at 286 lbs, kicked the diet in gear cutting carbs and timing my meals better. Upped my cardio to 4 days a week 45 minutes. Working around a shoulder injury and still hitting the weights, bench press is down from 315 for a ten set to 295 but I will live.

              Today's weight 265 already
              Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Anyone have recommendations for a good protein powder?

I use ON(both whey and casein)..kind of getting pricey but it doesnt have much filler, tastes good with just water too (might be an acquired taste).

I'm currently using Cellucor Whey. Each flavor is slightly different but the Profile is really solid usually you're getting about 1.5 Fat, 3 Carbs, and 25 grams of Protein in a 34 gram scoop; and the taste is great. I've had Cinnamon Swirl, Cookies and Cream and Peanut Butter Marsh-mellow.

                      Cinnamon Swirl is delicious.

I'm a fan of Muscle Milk (it's gluten-free which is key for me with a gluten intolerance), although I use the RTD (ready to drink) because the powders aren't all GF.

Met-Rx is another brand I've used for years.

Syntha 6 is delicious. I think a bit overpriced, but I guess taste matters.

I use ON gold standard whey extreme milk chocolate flavor. Tastes pretty good with just water. First time I tasted it I thought it was kind of like a cold hot chocolate, if that makes any sense.

I have the chocolate and vanilla milkshake. The vanilla milkshake is great. It can be expensive but you can catch it on sale at places like GNC.
