    Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Science teacher, with the help of three of his students, loses 37lbs after 3 months of eating at McDonalds three times per day and walking 45 minutes per day and 2000 calories per day.

2,000 calorie diet. He was on the today show with their nutritionist. Her only negative point was the high salt intake he was ingesting.

His point was you can eat anywhere and anything you want as long as it's smart choices. He said for breakfest he would have 2 egg white mcmuffins, their maple oatmeal and 1% milk. For lunch, sometimes it was a salad, sometimes a value meal. He said he didn't shy away from Big Mac's or Quarter Pounders w/cheese and would have sundaes and ice cream cones.

The key was you had to plan accordingly to your big calorie meal.

Further proving weight loss is all about calories. The word unhealthy and healthy used to describe food is thrown out too often and in accurately.

That report isnt surprising..I've mentioned it here a few times, but there was a teacher that did a twinkie diet for a month and lost a fair % of body fat over the course of the experiment. Why? Because he was eating at a deficit. Likewise, you can get fat eating just bananas IF you're eating more then your daily maintenance and over a period of time.

That being said, if you workout/train regularly, or actually care about what you're putting into your body, I wouldn't suggest going on these sorts of diets or really eating those types foods regularly. The ingredient list for a twinkie, for example, is amazing. Same goes for most simple things at mcdonalds. Full of all sorts of wonderful chemicals that your body has no clue what to do with. So yes, of course you can lose weight eating anything provided its under your daily maintenance. Doesn't mean you should.

For me personally, I notice a huge difference in how i train if I've eaten lower quality/processed foods, so i tend to stay away from that stuff as much as possible.

I tried the ice cream diet but it didn't work. Tried the alcohol liquid diet and it didn't work either nor do I remember it.

It probably wasn't the best idea to do Day 1 and Day 2 in the same night after taking 2.5 months off of Insanity. Oh well. I'm still alive.

Right a calorie is a calorie after all.. however the reason you keep a "well balanced" diet is to make sure you're getting sufficient micro-nutrients and vitamins. For healthy immune function, digestion, and optimal recovery.

500 Calories on Apples, and 500 calories in Ice cream are the same caloric value however the apples will generally give you a better nutritional value with less saturated fats and contain natural sugars.

The teacher did tell the students if there was anything going wacky with his blood levels, the experiment was over.

He checked midway through and everything was normal.

At the end of 90 days, his cholesterol lowered and his triglycerides were lower.

He was only making the point that you can eat wisely at MickeyD's if you choose wisely.

I think it was the opposite study of Supersize Me. Plus, since that movie, Mickey's has better food options available.

No way would I eat their 24/7 to lose weight, though.

Right and that's the main point that I think we as fitness conscious people can benefit from. A lot of Fast Food places have shaped up and started to offer more of a variety of healthier options on their menus. More salads, more grilled meat over deep fried, lower sodium choices, whole wheat. (maybe they were forced to because of Government regulations)

Now you can go Out a few times a week and eat out without fear. As long as you are conscious of what you are getting, and wisely picking out from the healthier choices. Personally I still rather Food shop, and cook at Home more often.. but in this day and age where we're at School, or Work for long hours it's almost impossible to not have days where you need to pick up something quick at a take out place.

What's the verdict on multivitamins? I used to take Orange Triad but I saw a news report saying that multivitamins would increase your risk for cancer and that in combination with the label "WARNING this product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm" I put a cease to it.

I've started taking the Kirkland (costco brand) multivitamins lately. One of my friends says they don't do you any good but I've heard so much mixed reviews on multivitamins I'm not sure what's true and what's not.

There are a lot of studies just recently coming out against Multivitamins but it seems like they are slanted and just stating the obvious, of course if you take 1000% of your Daily recommended amount of Magnesium, or Vitamin E it can be harmful just like too much of anything is bad.

I think Multivitamins just like any potential supplement can be beneficial if used correctly, Take the proper dosage of a good solid all around Multi just so you can get all the Micro-nutrients you might not be getting from your diet. Hey, if you have a perfectly well balanced diet you don't need a Multivitamin, but let's be honest in this day of constantly being on the go and having so little time to cook.. how many of us can say we have a diverse, balanced diet and are constantly meeting our Micro-nutrient needs?

I had the same questions and ended up buying some anyways to give it a try. I really only will take it if I realized I ate like crap that day and got minimal nutritional value or I foresee that happening in my day. I got the generic wal mart for active men under 50 or something like that. I realized an entire tablet made me feel a little off so I break them in half or only take half of it.

30 Burpees were completed this morning. I'm starting to feel it. I wasn't in poor shape I didn't believe, but I guess I'm being proven otherwise. I'm still on the two a day burpees, but we'll see how long I can keep it up. Morning and Night "shouldn't" be that difficult, in conjuction with the regular workouts, but I was kind of lagging this morning.
