 Re: OS Site History.....

I know Steve has responded to this question before in depth, not sure where. But yea someone else owned the site and Steve joined the staff and eventually bought it when it was still really small. Guys like Steve, Clay, TCrouch, fsquid, peter, bdoughty, and some others I'm forgetting were on the staff either at the very beginning or very early on. IIRC, there was a mass exodus from the IGN forums when they made them insider only. Some of the guys who posted at both places invited the IGN only guys over. I never really posted then but I checked IGN occasionally and saw people mentioning OS so I came over here.

There were a few versions of the forums before this. Much smaller, a lot less different categories. Like there used to be just one forum for anything related to football, ie madden, 2K, college football, pro football. Eventually the site got too big for that and fanboys got too annoying so each game got a forum, and then those got split up even more into subforums. The mods were always pretty strict, in a good way imo, from the beginning about keeping the nonsense out, just less strict about permanent bans. A lot more warnings, or short term bans. More people who were able to consistently push the tos to the edge for a long time before getting banned. More drama, hell bdoughty was probably one of the biggest trolls of them all. He eventually quit the staff and then kept posting porn until they would ban him. Now the site's just too big to mod that way, you mess up, you go.

 Re: OS Site History.....

Hell, "The Cell" itself is one that only vets know about these days.

As a member of the group who was mass-celled by Clay, that was a fun few days. I remember a few of us having an AIM chat about whether or not we were going to back down and apologize and everything instead of serving our sentences. I think I ended up being celled for a week. That sucked.Comment

 Re: OS Site History.....

So, you were planning to create a new account every year. Yeah, good thing you bailed on that.

Well, there is the stickied "Classic Threads" thread. Some of the threads you speak of may be linked in there, though a lot of the links from the early days of that thread no longer work.

 Re: OS Site History.....

Can't remember if that was the original thread.

We used to have someone every single year say they had NBA 2k early when I fact none of them did ever and they always ended up banned after giving pages of false impressions.

I used to say with the diversity of people here you could find out almost anything. Got questions on your taxes someone knew the answer. ..... needed advice on buying a car someone had an answer for you. It was always great

The NBA forum used to be a damn trip. When DC and GSW got going on something it was too good to miss.

Cebby used to kill me too, he told it like it was.
