Be careful with trademark/licensing issues though. Not sure how the NBA would feel about someone live streaming their product.

Im not saying live steam the game, just live steam the play by play.

Yeah, if you just do an audio of it, I *think* that's fine. Although they do say "no accounts or dissemination of this game blah blah blah whatever." I guess I don't know for sure.

I watched the vid and you are the best YouTube commentator I've ever seen.(which is saying a lot since I watch MrHurriicane). I subbed to your channel as well.

Like everyone else has said, I think you should pursue a play-by-play job. Maybe to help get yourself more recognition you could find a color commentator and do vids with him.

Personally I don't have experience in radio or sports broadcasting.

I did however grow up in a radio family and my dad was a pbp announcer for college football and college basketball for awhile.


They only thing I will say is that in order to be successful at this, you have to be prepared to relocate.

It might not happen but you have to be prepared the do that if it is necessary. I've lived across the country because my dad is in radio so it's something you may have to be prepared to do.

I'm going to school for broadcasting to be an sports anchor. One thing I noticed is the old cliche not what but who you know which is true. So many people I seen get very far in the broadcasting field just by knowing someone. So with that get out there and network! For me personally I did countless extra radio stuff for classmates for extra practice etc. Along with doing cross work for other kids at school or university radio shows.

One thing that I did to help get me out there is live coverage. I went to an local AAU basketball game just asking the coaches about there players before games schemes they run etc. I recorded myself broadcasting the games and used that as my demo. Most radio places want to hear live work vs scripted work to be honest. Another thing is be multi talented!

In this field never ever limit yourself! I been working with switchboards my schools tv crew etc. Trying to learn new things because I never know what opportunity might arise. You should do the same learn the switchboards even some anchor stuff as well if you wanted to transition towards tv later on. You have good work but try to do live game coverage see how you do!

One thing I would like to suggest is to learn and practice doing play-by-play for other sports. If you can expand to hockey, football, baseball, and others, you can only help yourself by increasing your range of potential job opportunities.

One thing I would like to suggest is to learn and practice doing play-by-play for other sports. If you can expand to hockey, football, baseball, and others, you can only help yourself by increasing your range of potential job opportunities.

I was also going to suggest this. I'm sure the OP knows this, but it shouldn't be too hard to get into HS football. You can have a game Thursday and Friday the entire season then also on Saturdays in the playoffs.

I was a stat man for one of the bigger broadcast teams in Texas HS football and it was lot of fun.

Just to echo previous comments, you definitely have a voice for it, and the more you continue to work on your craft the better it is going to get.

The thing I won't knock you for was the forced emotion, because I know it is difficult to inject real emotion into a video game. You are one of the few online game commentators who I could see having a future in broadcasting.

Off topic but there is a british guy who does PES games who is fantastic as well.

Thank you, and yes, real emotion is hard to manifest off of video game footage, but that's something I'm working on. Would you happen to have a link to the PES commentator you mentioned? I'd love to check out some of his work.

Incorporating a color guy is something I'd love to do for MLB The Show 14 broadcasts. I think that would add an entirely new dynamic.

Thank you for the terrific advice. I have some recordings of live radio broadcasts I've done for a university I currently work at for my portfolio. However, you're completely right in terms of learning multiple skills such as the switchboard. I will look into that.

UTSA would have been great but I'll be doing games for the other DI program in SA, the University of the Incarnate Word.
