I'm a goofball myself, but there's a time and place. Which is almost any time and any where. But on a plane where people are already anxious about flying, terrorists, and now this disease... Not the time man. People are going to take this stuff seriously while it's in the news. Your dumb joke just messed up everyone's schedule.

There's a story running around on Facebook saying one of the Ebola patients came back from the dead and bit 3 people. People will believe anything.

Flew to California from Denver yesterday. 3 people on the plane were wearing doctor's masks. It made me really feel like I was in a movie, and kind of freaked me out.

Yeah supposedly someone who was part of the medical team for the guy that just died. Story said he/she had been in full protective gear so that would mean this person became involved after they knew what they were dealing with.

It reads like the person has tested positive and isn't just showing possible symptoms.

Damn, that's a bit scary. I really don't know how they're going to keep this bottled up what with the screening at airports for people coming from African nations. Lord knows airports can be pretty damn leaky security wise even after 9/11.

Scary to know that this person contracted Ebola even after being in full protective gear too.

Yeah. The story is just getting going so I imagine some of the details will change. Hopefully if it is all pretty accurate they will have good enough records to point to how this particular person became infected in spite of the protocols.

                    Re: Ebola

From what I read, it was a "breach in protocol" that resulted in the infection, though the article doesn't elaborate on what that breach was. It also seems like public health and CDC officials were taking a much more proactive response to decontaminating the nurse's home as opposed to the seemingly lackadaisical response to decontaminating Duncan's home.

I think that'd be taking it too far. You can't just tell people where they can or can't go. Wouldn't solve anything either since people could just fly to some other country and then go to Africa.

Agreed, but I think there is going to be a surge in cases in the "West," and a lot of questions will be asked after the fact about whether enough was done, or if health/government/expert officials employed enough imagination in terms of projecting, planning, response.

Isn't that what we do with Cuba? Even if someone connects in another country they would still have their origin on their passport.

Eh, not to get political but that's the remnants of an irrational and frankly outdated policy. I'm surprised they haven't lifted or greatly modified the embargo since Fidel is no longer in power.

This is something a bit different besides, most people from West Africa don't even have the money to fly to North America unless they're pretty well off. Most of those people while living in the hot zones aren't exactly IN the direct epicenter of the outbreak. Who knows, someone who has the money to get to the west could be doing so to get away from the very real threat of contracting Ebola.

Sure you can. You can determine as a nation that steps are needed so that you can preserve yourself as that nation. We had banned people flying into numerous countries for various political and safety reasons. It's just common sense.
