Sadly we're too early in history for all the sci-fi games, movies and shows to be reality.

Hopefully science figures out a way to keep humans alive for 100+ years so then we can at least witness the beginning of that.

The Mars news is certainly a game changer as this should give impetus to y'know, give NASA at least something resembling a budget for a real Mars program. The crazy thing is, this universe is more and more surprising by the year. The recent Pluto flyby pictures are throwing everyone for a loop because it looks like THAT planet might have had some kind of life in the past.

The way we view our solar system is going to change rapidly in the coming years and it seems life may not be as unique as we all once thought.

NASA is definitely not the problem with funding. NASA itself is dreadfully underfunded.

Yes, I know that. I mean the impetus to give NASA a budget would come from showing these findings to congress etc etc so THEY can give NASA more money.

Never knew this till today, even though it was announced awhile ago.

Tom Bergeron is done as host of Americas Funniest Home Videos, and Alfonso Ribeiro will be replacing him(first episode of it will be airing in October)

Never knew this till today, even though it was announced awhile ago.

Tom Bergeron is done as host of Americas Funniest Home Videos, and Alfonso Ribeiro will be replacing him(first episode of it will be airing in October)

Doubt that would work. There's isn't a large enough or powerful enough group of voters/constituents or private sector lobbyists who would push for funding to be diverted from other programs. Throwing money at education, the military, foreign aid, social programs, etc, is always going to take precedent over space exploration. By a lot. Hell, I'm sure NASA is encouraged to study climate change much more than space exploration, just because it's a hot button issue that sells to voters.

We have enough problems to deal with on our own planet for me to give even the slightest **** about any others.

Although, if we can figure out a way to launch billions of people to other planets at once, that would be worth the research.

You're probably right which is why i'm keeping an eye on the private business ventures that are starting up which would work in conjunction with NASA. The private folks build the spacecraft and facilities for launches while NASA provides the science end of it.

As for the attitude of Matrix and others, I understand it and I get it but at the same time we should keep all avenues open and available for any eventuality which may include colonization etc etc.

More planets to destroy!

I read somewhere that a scientist thought Venus would be more inhabitable. Threw me for a loop because i knew it was gaseous until he said we'd be living on cloud cities.

Life could look very different 100-200 years from now. Maybe sooner, maybe later. But it makes sense considering where we are now to where we were even 50 years ago. Not to mention 100, 500, or 1000.

Venus isnt gaseous. Its a rocky planet with tons of clouds. Its a literal oven with clouds as the door and the ground as the furnace

I would say Nate Silver has too much time on his hands, but then I remember it's his job to present trivial statistics like that in long form articles. It's a pretty sweet gig.
