I guess it just depends on what people use it for. Cause for me, my basement was always the extra tv/game room. Used to be the place I played all my video games and watched tv there too. Which,is especially useful like I mentioned in summer, cause if you got a game console on, the room does slowly heat up,so it's even better to have it in the basement during hot weather since it's cool down there.

Maybe it's just me then lol. I'm fine without certain things in my life, but the second they get inserted into it, I go into that whole "how did I manage before I had that" feeling. And if that thing gets taken away eventually, I start to wish I had it back, though I never needed it for the longest while before I first had it.

Kinda like the Internet. I grew up without it and now it's like how did I live without it. Or with my iPhone.

I've always had a basement. Even my apartment building has a basement/underground garage.

I've always felt that a cellar was more of a small area underground, almost like a big closet. While a basement is a whole bottom floor underground. Speaking of, I guess I do technically have a basement now - but it's concrete floor and only is there for the apartment tenants to hook up washer and dryers.

Wish we had a garage but I'll settle for one of the parking lots backing right up to my building. Gotta park on the street otherwise.

Internet MAYBE a slightly diff thing just cause basically everyone has it now and you basically NEED it in today society(at least depending on the country you live in).

I don't remember my life without internet. I remember it without wifi, and especially remember those old phone cable into the computer days lol. I was only allowed to use internet for a few minutes a day and it was only for homework back then lol.

Something else for example like a DVR. I'm sure everyone remembers life without stuff like DVRs and they managed just fine back then too. But lets say you have a DVR today but it got taken away, you'd have hard time adjusting back to watching TV without a DVR(assuming you regularly used it before),even though for many years prior, you never even had it,maybe didn't want(or feel need the need) to have it or thought there was anything wrong with the way you used to watch tv.

It was always fun getting new kinds of technology and trying it out for first time. I remember first getting Windows XP. Everything looked so cool since it was first upgrade since Windows 98 for me,so that was first real upgrade I ever had. I still remember that paperclip icon guy and some dog or something?

And first time ever watching a TV channel in HD at home....it looked so cool. Now,I'm basically use to HD stuff to the point where nothing stands out like that anymore, though even watching SD stuff on a flatscreen TV or on those older TVs(yes,I know people who still have those) actually doesn't seem that much of a downgrade to me anymore lol.

I was one of those people until recently!

HD or SD never made much of a difference to me. Obviously, given the choice, it's HD. It's better. But I wasn't trying to drop money on a new TV if my old one was still working up to my standards.

Then they started optimizing the feeds/overlays for HD and graphics got cut off. That's when it became a pain.

I remember downloading songs in middle school and thinking 10 kb/s was the fastest download speed ever. Switching to DSL was mind-blowing.

I was just glad to hear my dad not complain about me hogging up the home phone by being on the internet all the time.

It was also funny as a kid using the internet almost like being some sort of secret agent. If someones on the phone and you try to connect to the internet, you're unable to BUT....You get tapped into the phone conversation,so you can listen in on their conversation without them ever knowing(since you don't have to pick up a phone or anything to do so) lol.

That reminds me, I also had a real cheap cordless phone(back when cordless home phones had those big antennas, but mine broke) that actually picked up some random persons baby monitor from who knows how many houses down(since nobody close to my house had a baby).

It doesn't matter if you "managed" before this. The entire point of technological development is to make doing things you used to do in an easier and more efficient manner.
