Re: Worst job you ever had?

My current /soon to be old job. A co-worker has been gossiping about me, and I haven't paid it any mind as he's just a teenage pup to me.

After another co-worker reveals who it is to me, I simply say to him I honestly don't care if this guy doesn't like me. I'm here to work and feed my child not be apart of some high-school drama.

Later on in the day the co-worker who's been gossiping about me, ask to speak in the back room. He says what's been on his mind and I tell him he could of told me from the beginning instead of involving our co-workers, and that I don't care one way or the other if it's not work related.

He gets angry and starts yelling I wanna fight, I'm literally laughing in his face as I have brothers his age. I say ok, he says no I'm not going to lose my job over you. Keep in mind there is no camera's in the back and everyone else is oblivious of what's going on.

The situation is left alone, this fool waits until we go back out front to continue carrying on trying to show off for his cousin and our other co-workers. I laugh again like really.

Now I'm sitting there working, this guy decides to charge at me and grab me right in front of customers and under the camera. The manager and co-workers rush to break it up and in my head being raised in the projects most of my life my first thought is punch this guy in his face and defend yourself.

I'm just proud of my self that I kept it professional and didn't even attempt to fight this guy just took his hands off me.

And after all that **** I'm told by the manager I'll most likely be the one fired as this guy has been their longer. At this point I'm beyond heated, I reach out to the boss of our location to find out our manager didn't tell him he learned about it from a co-worker who came down to our location for the day and he was told we had a fight not that this guy tried to assault me.

He thanks me for reaching out to him and says he'll check the footage, thanks me again as he says he was leaning towards firing me also from how the story was told to him and he'll get the other guys story and we'll both be notified Monday.

I worked for a temp company for about a month right after college. One day - and thankfully it was only one day - we had to tear up the yard and then lay new sod down at this woman's house. This was in June, in Alabama. It was about 100 degrees that day. We got there at 5:45 a.m., hoping to start early to beat the heat. We finished sometime after 7 p.m. It was horrendous.

That would be a complete shame if you got fired instead of him, you did nothing and he attacked you; unprovoked.

But sometimes seniority, or workplace favorites win out... Was this a warehouse, stocking, retail job? I've noticed a lot of the younger crowd in those types of jobs 18-22 tend to treat the workplace as a carry over straight from High School, and bring all sorts of drama to work. Which is a shame... I always stay as far away from that type of HS BS the moment I sense any at work.

Restaurant, right in the middle of Manhattan.

Completely sucks that seniority/favoritism trumps someone attacking you. If their going to get rid of me over that the hell with them.

I come in and work, I barely even talk unless it's about work, sports, and the kids with my older co-workers. He scratched another co-workers face in the process of grabbing and scratching at me, and also threatened a chef in front of the manager during the Summer go figure.

The guy was pissed two days ago that he had to cover a evening shift that I wouldn't accept because I covered his damn all day shift superbowl Sunday after working open - close Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

He usually goes on break to go get high and I'll be damn if I was going to take on another shift for this guy.

I'm no lawyer but I'd think getting fired for a co-worker with seniority attempting to assault you, with video evidence as proof, would be a pretty open and shut case for wrong full termination.

Unless we aren't getting the full story.

Still seems like something is missing and it was never answered what initially caused the dispute.

Honestly I worked with this guy three months straight and we never had a problem. We also had different co-workers during that time, so theirs that.

Which consisted of him, myself, my brother and two mutual friends. Now it was him, his cousin and a friend from his neighborhood. Which he claims he was told I had annomosity towards him from one of the two, which is a load of bull****.

I can say I knew it was a problem when he was giving me dirty looks all week and I could of been the adult and tried to defuse it sooner. But as I said I'm not their for the high school nonsense. Even the talk that lead to the argument, well his yelling and indecisive I wanna fight I don't wanna fight nonsense was initiated by him after I clocked out.

I don't know if it's because I refused his late night shift or the above but clearly he was feeling some kind of way to not speak to me all week. In which I didn't either if it wasn't work related, as I'm not their to kiss *** or be forced to read someone else's mental state.

I was told they would hear both sides of the story and look at the footage to double check, as well as ask the co-workers who saw what happened.

Which is the dark spot for me as the only witness before we reached the cameras happens to be his cousin. Who can lie and say anything to prevent his family member from losing his job, I just really can't even believe that's what my job status hangs on, it's total bull****.

Edit:I have pictures of the scratch marks he left after grabbing for my face as well as our co-worker he scratched up in the attempt to break up the situation.

Well they let us both go today, which is fair.

Him for the attack and me for agreeing to talk to this guy without our manager present.

As this could of been prevented if I spoke up, they could of relocated one of us if we couldn't resolve the problem by talking.

Sucks because it's true. I have a child to provide for and he has his first due soon, and just the fact that we were actually cool before this past week.

I'm confused about even getting a new job, what the hell do I say once I admit to being fired for the first time. That I had a fight that I happened to not throw a punch or kick in.

Word of advice for next time. Don't laugh even if it is funny, that just makes it worst. Hope you find a better job soon, bro.

The worst job I ever had was a parking attendant at Six Flags. Crappy hours and out in the hot sun all day bites!

That's why jobs do interviews, so you can explain your side. Just be honest and take responsibility even though it's BS you got let go too, at least according to what we know. I quit a job because what we were serving was dangerous and embarrassing, and I explained that in my next interview. Got the job.

I guess since it's a restaurant that unemployment isn't a good option? But restaurants are always hiring as well, so I'm sure you can find a new spot.

It's weird to me how jobs are quick to fire sometimes, but will let clear problems persist. My brother just got axed for basically speaking up on behalf of the client. He does a good job and didn't like how his company was essentially withholding information from clients, and he would be on the receiving end of their venom. The company knew they were being shady, but probably didn't want him to crack and let the secret out so he was let go pretty quickly. He was worried about them contesting his unemployment case, but they didn't. Kind of telling.

Best of luck to you and your family.
