Re: My cat might not make it through the night...

Aw man... well hopefully she continues to improve. Great pictures.

My first pet and princess of the palace is turning 14 this year. Doesn't look it at all! But I know the decline can be rapid and out of nowhere. We definitely plan on getting another cat or two in the future, but we're gonna let her continue to be #1 and only until she passes. Hopefully not any time soon!

Ugh, just thinking about not waking up to her on our head, taking up the whole pillow or a whole sliver of the bed is making me all emotional. As much as we bitch about her being a prissy spoiled brat, we love her to death for it. That's my girl.

    Keep us posted.

I'm glad to hear she's doing a little better and is back home, hopefully she makes a full recovery. You guys are still in my thoughts.

Re: My cat might not make it through the night...

Prayers man. Such a beautiful cat. I'm a total cat guy through and through, so I understand the feelings you're going through. I was pretty blessed growing up to not lose any family members, so my first real loss was my cat Samantha. She was quite old and had been getting frail for a while. We knew it was time, and the night before we took her in to be put to sleep, she managed to climb up the stairs for the first time in a while to make it into my room. She slept in my arms the whole night.

The next day was the first time I had truly cried out of emotion. I still miss her, and it's been 11 years since she passed. Just a few years later, we lost our other cat Chenniese to a tumor. I had since moved out for college, and she was having so much trouble that my parents had her put down that day and I never had a chance to say goodbye. Heartbreaking, but she's in a better place.

My wife and I have since adopted our first cat, and we all (kids included) adore her. She's a beautiful 2 year old calico. I'm so happy to have her around to grow up with my kids. I was so close to my two cats growing up, and they made a lot of bad days so much better.

Best of luck man! I truly hope everything goes well.

mgo, I'm so sorry for your loss man! It's awful when it comes out of nowhere like that. You don't really have time to process it.

I know the pain of vet bills, they suck bad. We've spent thousands on our current dog. We have been fighting for over a year with some type of dog staph infection. She has been on 5 or 6 different types of antibiotics for around 18 months now (which I don't think is good either). Yet it goes away and comes back, so we have had multiple different types of test run which are $300 to $400 a pop. On top of the antibiotics which are $45 every two weeks. So add that all up and we are over $2000 im sure.

My wife begged me for her and I didn't want a small dog. After 8 years, I can honestly say I'm more attached to this dog than I have ever been with another animal. Love for a pet will make the money seem secondary. It sucks spending all the money, but will do it without question.

Hope everything goes good for you guys Hero, we would be devastated if we lost our family pet.

She's home now (thank god) but she's acting very odd. The vet thinks it's because she's exhausted but can't rule out other diseases (he didn't want to run a blood test I guess to keep the cost down.)

Had I known that was why he didn't I would have okay'd it. What's a few hundred more at this point!

$651 and counting (he discounted from over $1,000). But she's worth every penny. You can't put a price on love, you know?

I'll say a prayer for you my friend.
Ours was 350 and it was the not good option. If they could have told me that I could pay 651 and have a legit shot at her being ok I'd have taken it....We would have had to pay over 2k and even then everything I read (and what they told us) says it'd be pretty futile in the end.

I'll keep you in my prayers!

Our little girl seems to be doing much better today. It's nuts how quickly an animal can go from seemly healthy, to on their death bed, to seemingly healthy again.

She was so exhausted last night. LOL! She could hardly lift her head up but it was cute to watch her try. Here's a shot of her resting up.

Good luck to you. I consider myself fortunate that this time the fiancé and I didn't have to go into debt covering the bills. A few years ago, we actually had to use a credit card to diagnose and ultimately put down or last cat.

I'd take out a pet insurance plan without question if something that was universally accepted existed, since I'm on the subject. A friend of ours opted to let her dog (our dog's cousin) die because the surgery needed to save the dog was several thousand dollars. I'm not judging here, although I personally disagree with her decision. My point being that we should never be placed in that kind of position to have to choose to feed ourselves or save our animals.

Yea and you know the sad thing, it doesn't exist just with pets. Humans themselves are subjected to the unfortunate situation of expensive medical procedures that either bankrupt people or they die from not being able to be treated due to the cost.

Thanks, she is super sweet. One good thing, my wife spoke with our vet and looks like we finally have a diagnoses. Its a positive to now know what is wrong. http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/...drenocorticism

Downside, its a life long condition which will have to be treated by medication her entire life. Which for us that means another "bill" to factor in because now we will be spending another $100 bucks or so on her medication a month. Animals are not cheap, but they are apart of the family just like anyone else in our eyes.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you and your fiance. Let that stress level go down some

Re: My cat might not make it through the night...

                        Life is strange.

After beating critical portion of the heart disease, I woke up yesterday to my cat jumping onto my shoulder (as I was laying down), her face to my face, trying to bump my head but I knew something was wrong.

A couple of minutes later it started again and she was back behind the entertainment center.

We took her to the vet and he said he wanted to monitor her overnight. Last night he calls us to tell us she was better, but she had an upper respiratory infection - which was treatable - and that she was great and we could pick her up in the morning.

First thing this morning, we get the call. Our baby had a seizure and didn't make it.

My fiancé and I are really sort of at a loss at all of this. But you better believe the last few weeks have been something special. She led a great life and went out the happiest kitty on the planet. It's just hard, you know?

To fight like this and suddenly have a seizure (and I think more fluid in her lungs again) just hammers down the point that THIS was really her time. So while I'm trying to focus on what we've had, especially the last few weeks, it just kills us that we'd still lose her so suddenly.

I appreciate the support you've all given us. It means so much to me. Thanks for the kind words and stories and my prayers are with you and your families (and pets!).

                        What a blow.

                            Dude, sorry to hear that.

I love my cat to death, but since I've read this thread, I think I really have appreciated her that much more. We just went away for 24 hours and I missed all her little quirks and routines so friggin' much. She really is like the child we haven't had yet.

You guys did everything you could for your cat so feel no guilt. She'll always live on in your memories.
