Re: I'm getting married!!
I've been married twice. The first one didn't last because I didn't explain a couple things to my first wife before we got married and she tried to change me, hence I divorced her.
Before I married my current wife I told her two things, some will find this stupid, but it worked.
1. I'm a gamer, that means I've enjoyed playing video games practally my entire life. I find it relaxing after a day of work , and it's just fun. I will not let gaming eat up all my time and will of course have time for you, but I'm will not give up gaming.
2. I play drums, drums are loud and I will be playing them in the basement of our home. I will sometimes have friends over to jam. I've played drums since 1974 and I will continue to play them until my body won't allow it anymore. I will make an effort to play when you are not home, but there will be times when I'll be playing when you are home.
I told her if she can except these two things, and not try and change me by asking I give one or both up, we will be fine. And for 16 years we have been. Still going strong.
So my point is make sure she knows and excepts who you are going in, and the same goes for you with her. Let each other do the things you love as well as finding new things you love to do together.Comment

Re: I'm getting married!!
Congrats man! I'm getting married in October and we have been living together since June(bought a house).
1. I think one thing that makes us so strong is that she accepts me for me. She understands and loves the fact that I am a video game, sport, and comic nerd. At the same time I do the same I watch American Idol, Ellen, and the Voice with her. We have found the perfect balance.
2. We do little things together like grocery shopping.
3. Laugh a lot. And I mean a lot.

Re: I'm getting married!!
Just remember that this is how women are:
Spoiler
Wife's Diary:
Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much.
I asked him what was wrong; He said, 'Nothing..' I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him that I
loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why he didn't say, 'I love you, too.'
When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around
us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep; I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.
Husband's Diary:
A two-foot putt...who the hell misses a two-foot putt ?
Seriously, it doesn't have to be hard. Like guys have already said in here, always communicate and remember that going the extra mile goes along way.
I've been married for two and a half years and we have been together almost seven years. Plus, we work together... well, at the same place, but not right along side one another. She knew going in that I was a gamer. Heck I played video games almost every night even when we were dating and I play more now than I ever did as a single guy. We have a routines and stuff, but I always make sure it give her a few hours every night. Whether it's watching our shows, cooking together, gardening, or just playing outside with the dogs, we spend an hour or two together pretty much everyday when we get home. After that most nights I go off to my man cave for an hour (sometimes two
) , then we meet back up before bed to wind down. I think it's important to make sure that your wife has a hobby to, so that they aren't bored and just sitting there watching the clock waiting on you to finish playing. So if she finds something she's interested in, I would definitely support her in doing it.
In regards to going the extra mile, around the middle of every week I'll ask my wife what she wants to do that weekend. 9 times out of 10 I already know.. Unless we have a trip or something planned it's pretty much the same: cut grass on Saturday, church on Sunday, we may have company coming over, or a date night planned, etc. but I ask anyway. I think just be attentive and talking through things as simple as that is a great way to keep the lines of communication open.
Also don't take her for granted. Tell her she's "lookin good" even if she's having a bad hair day (lol), remember to thank her for making dinner or doing the dishes or whatever and don't get angry if she does mess up dinner or delete your show off of the DVR, etc. Relationships don't have to be that difficult. I'm sure there will be highs and lows, but when you're at a low point don't be the reason you stay there. Good luck, O-DoggMy 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Correct me if I am wrong here, but are you marrying into the same family you were going to take on Dr. Phil?

Re: I'm getting married!!
Yeah, ODogg, have you worked any of this out?
I recently got engaged but my fiance's parents do not approve of me. I'm 11 years older than my fiance (I'm 43 and she's 32) but their age isn't their concern. Their concern is that I don't make enough money (I make about 50k per year with great benefits) and that I'm not "nice looking enough". Her mother actually went as far to say that we would have ugly babies, LOL. She also said "enjoy living on welfare", which I suppose refers to when I collected unemployment which I was on for a while while looking for a job when I was contracting..
Anyways, another issue is that she has MS (multiple sclerosis) and her parents believe that I'm causing it. The reason being is that I'm a testicular cancer survivor so I take testosterone and for some weird reason they think that somehow the testosterone is getting on her and causing her to have MS-like symptoms. This despite the fact I've quit taking testosterone months ago as we are trying to conceive.Comment
