Agreed, I travel to Houston frequently for work. I would in no way shape or form call that a safe city.

Also, after talking with the clerk of courts, i had a warrent out for me because of the failure to appear.

Good thing the lady i talked to was very polite and understanding. All she had me do was fax in my time sheet from work on the day the ticket was issued. She then took it to the DA and got the case dismissed.
Make sure you double check that the warrant got cancelled. Don't want to get pulled over for a minor traffic violation and end up going to jail for an outstanding warrant when there shouldn't be one.

I would check your credit report, sounds like someone stole your identity. At a minimum, they stole your driver's license # and put a new picture on it.

What is your definition of safe?

Also I was in Sugarland, downtown, and all the other tourist spots (galveston, etc...) No problem.

Well tourist spots/suburbs and downtown (to an extent) are generally safe. I would consider downtown Detroit safe. It's off the beaten paths where you don't know what you'll get. I live in Sugarland, and it is definitely considered a safe city. Within city limits (Houston - Southwest and North in partiy) though, it's a different story. As someone mentioned, Houston (the city of) has a very high VIOLENT crime rate, even for a big city. Violent crimes are reported on the daily, and I can think of many from the last month (homicide, robbery, shooting) off the top of my head.

There's a McDonalds less than a mile from my house and they have a police officer stationed there due to the crime.

I'd consider a place safe when police aren't stationed at fast food places.

A police officer was murdered by 3 cowards here in Lake County, Illinois. Is is just me, or is this happening more and more with LEOs being ambushed these days? I can think of 3 in the last month alone. SMH.

The suspects are still at large, but the manhunt is MASSIVE. Please extend NO quarter to these animals. Though I doubt if cornered these guys are just going to give up the game.

There are some officers here at OS that probably have a better idea, but I don't think it's happening any more than usual. Things involving violence and police officers is at the front of the news these days, and this is the other side of it so I think it's getting more attention than isolated incidents would in the past.

This particular story seems to be a huge man hunt so I think it's getting even more shine because it's bigger than some others (I think there was an officer in Texas on Friday?).

11 officers killed in 12 days sounds like it is more common, but like you said I'm not on the inside. It just sounds really high to me.

Yeah, seems like it may just be getting more media attention than in the past probably related to fallout from and presumed retaliation against the officer-involved killings of unarmed suspects that have occurred in the past year. A quick google search turns up this site that indicates line of duty deaths are actually down 1% this year.

Still, the way some of these recent killings have been carried out is despicable and cowardly.

Yeah it happened in Houston (Harris County). Which is the same police department that works in my building.

It may be the way they're being killed too, sought out almost.
