lol ya, that's another thing I feel like I've overpaid for. I didn't pay more than they're worth, but I feel like they cost so much when alternatives are cheaper(such as not using a textbook at all, buying a previous version,or finding the textbook for free online).

It's just one pathetic scam. I had a professor who intentionally assigned the class work from the textbook, where the numbers/info in the textbook are different on a year to year basis. So if you bought the prior semesters book, you would have wrong info. That was literally the only difference between textbooks between semesters. And some even forbid you from using the ebook version of it, so if you paid for the ebook which was cheaper than the physical copy at the bookstore, you basically wasted your money cause they wouldn't allow people to use laptops or tablets to read their ebook in class.

I managed to find some textbooks online too which were great. I copied a sentence from someones textbook, pasted it word for word into google, and found some PDFs of the book suddenly show up. Sometimes it was even the google books free preview of the book. So they might have like 80% of the book shown online for FREE. That method alone saved me who knows how many thousands of dollars over those years.

A bottle of liquor at a club would probably be the most nonsensical thing I have overpaid for. Knowingly buy something marked up 2000%.

On a similar topic, food/drinks at a sports game. I could get a medium pizza for around $10. At a sports game, you pay like $8 for a single slice.....

Refill bottle of water at home for next to nothing. At a sports game, pay $5 for 1 bottle.....

Game is only like 3 hours anyways, so I just keep the eating at a game down to a minimum lol. Just buy something that can be shared, and it's good enough. Crazy how its like $15+ to have 1 slice of pizza & a drink, when that same combo at a regular pizza place is like $3.50

              Re: Most you've overpaid...

The last time I went to New Orleans for the UFC fights and the next day we just breakfast at the hotel. When they sat us we waited what seemed like forever for a waitress to come over and after awhile my friend noticed a room that had a buffet. The menu actually looked pretty good and had some decently priced items (the seafood omelet for like $15-16 was one thing I was eyeing) , but I was tired of waiting so I hit the buffet.

I was still hungover from the night before so I really didn't want too much, so i just grabbed a Belgium Waffle (which kind of sucked) and fruit. It turned out that their breakfast buffet cost $28, so I paid $28 for a waffle with some cantaloupe and grapes.

                Re: Most you've overpaid...

                This is easy...

                A timeshare.

(It was my girl, not me. I refused to put my name on it).

                Personally...I'd say:
-Big screen TV (when they used to cost $2K+)
-Homeowner warranty (used it only once for the year)
-Financing my first car. Man, they got me.
-A dinner at Smith & Wollensky in Vegas (bachelor party for a friend of a friend's friend). The meal was justifiable. The amount of wine they bought wasn't.
-The Melting Pot (fondue restaurant for a someone's birthday)
-I tipped a guy who drove us around sight-seeing in another country the equivalent of a hefty U.S. Dollar tip not realizing that we had a huge favorable exchange rate compared to their local currency

Many more although I've gotten smarter (re: cheaper) over the years. The majority of that stuff was when I was in my 20s.

                  Most you've overpaid...

Dropped around 12-13K for all things wedding last year. Everyone loved it. No need to drop multiple tens of thousands of dollars. You can still have a beautiful wedding and no one will know the difference.

We broke budget where we felt was needed (DJ) and saved where we felt we could (photographer... everyone is one! Including, professionally, some of my wife's family). Photographer ended up being a total joke, but the DJ had the reception poppin'.

As for where I've overpaid, I can't think of any off the top of my head. Probably the little nickel and dime things, like going to a convenience store instead of a grocery store.

An elevated toilet in the half bath of my new house. $100 for being literally 1 inch taller than the other 3 at standard height.
