    Not about holding money.

It goes from initiating bank on day one and then through the federal reserve and then finally to the receiving bank who then makes it available with their next batch.

Then why does USAA pay earlier than other banks? If it falls on the weekend, sometimes a couple of days early?

What do you mean specifically? All banks I've worked with pay SSI benefits early if the1st fall on a Monday (as an example). It's all about when an ACH is originated but it has to go through the fed one way or the other.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by holding money. I've seen shady practices with some things but ACH deposits are highly regulated and can't really be manipulated.

I've had Chase and USAA, for whatever reason the money is in your bank account and available for use early every single time for USAA vs Chase and pretty much every other bank. Usually it's a day early but sometimes it's 2-3 days depending on when payday is.

For my taxes it said they sent my refund on March 7th and should get it by March 12. My money was in my account and available to use on March 4th which was the day they said I'd get my money on March 7th.

It's possible that your tax service under promised and over delivered. Not really unheard of but as I mentioned the ACH process can't be manipulated.

That's what the IRS said not my tax service. USAA does something different than other banks because they do pay early. I've talked to other people in the military with different banks and USAA is always early but I don't know why.

It's also not just federal funds as my wife's coworkers get paid Friday but she gets paid Thursday.

Very interesting but there is no way to pay "early."

An ACH has to be sent before it can be received. Sounds like they have a very streamlined process. Do you see this with all ACH's or just government related ACH's?

Same situation here. I always have my money in my account on Thursday, whereas my coworkers don't until Friday. Love USAA.

I would think you'd have to chalk it up to a more efficient process.

We can initiate a payroll ACH for direct deposit on Friday. Some employees will get it Thursday night, some will get it Friday morning, and others may get it late Friday.

It has caused some dumb situations with employees of clients. I received a call from a manager because his direct deposit didn't hit on Saturday like it normally did, but instead went through on Monday morning. Their paydate is always Monday.

Of course we never hear when people are paid early, but you can count on the calls to come in when payroll is deposited on the actual paydate.

I bought soccer tickets the other day. They were like $40. I thought the game was tomorrow. It turns out the game was today. Damn I'm stupid.

I've noticed a lot more talk about lacrosse in a few different parts of OS lately, so heads up for anyone who's interested, big time game between #1 Notre Dame and #2 Denver on espnu today at 5:30 est. Rematch of a semifinal from last season's tournament, Denver are defending champs.
