Funny how that doesn't surprise me. That's the vibe you get from any CFA I've been to. Sure enough, no horror stories, even online.
Anyone who's worked in fast food knows when the big dogs come, the place that's usually dirty as hell manages to sparkle. I hated that mindset. Like it didn't matter every other day, but as long as we passed health inspection or satisfied the higher ups on their trip around the area it was all good. That's the mentality that keeps places crappy. I hated cleaning, but if that's how it was regularly, it would just be part of the job.
I was one of the few who consistently cleaned my main area of work when I was slanging pizza pies. But there was the matter of using beat down equipment... our makeline was absolutely falling apart. From the top racks down to the actual refrigerated section not keeping temperature. Some parts were falling apart and growing God knows what in between the cracks. Yeah, the pizzas go through a 450 degree oven but I saw some stuff I don't want to even think about. People eat those ingredients man... it was embarrassing. I walked from a job on those grounds before, but I had to stick it out at this one.
It was constantly brought to upper management's attention but nothing was ever done. They'd call out a repair guy but every time they'd tell us they can bandaid it up but it needed to be completely replaced. Our store was a top performer in the district, you would think they could splurge on equipment that is essential to the job. That money kept coming in though. Shocked we never got a health complaint.
Couple months after I left, I saw they got a new makeline. Burned me up! Haha. Went through 4 managers in 4 years and 4 district managers. They promoted clowns, or shuffled people around just because. It didn't take more then a week to know a person's true colors. Yet they kept moving on and up.
I know this ain't unique to the fast food industry. Idiots somehow get in to positions they have no business being in in all industries. But man, they picked some real winners in my time there. Thing is, you couldn't pay me to run one of those joints. I knew what they were paying the GM's there... criminal man. To be on call 24/7. They burned 'em out. Wasn't worth the headache.
