NHL owners need to get rid of Gary Bettman ASAP.

I cannot believe this is the Stanley Cup Finals and the game isn't even on the major/primetime networks. I haven't watched any of the playoffs, primarily because I don't think of it or see it (like, who watches NBC Sports network??). Hockey is a great sport that's really fun to watch and it's sad this league has no idea how to market.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

      The ratings are bad.

Who would've thought a show like American Ninja Warrior would get more viewers than a SCF game. And the margin would have been that big. And Ninja Warrior was on a Monday night in the 8-10 slot and SCF had the 8-10:30 slot on the Sunday before.

I think his point though is that the NHL isn't marketed enough for people to gain interest and with it being on NBCSN not many are going to even notice when the games are on. I know I haven't. I see highlights of the playoffs every now and then on ESPN or something and it's like "oh yeah.. it's the playoffs huh."

Yeah game 1 was actually on NBC but as luck would have it Warriors/Thunder game 7 was on at the same time so it didn't matter.

But as an aside I'll never understand why these ninja warrior shows draw so many viewers.

Wait, what if the NBA game 7 had been Warriors vs Ninjas?

BSPN is the only place I ever even see Hockey highlights otherwise I'd never see anything Hockey related. The viewership numbers in sure show what the general consensus is on Hockey.

That not many really care for or about Hockey.

American Ninja Warrior tho.? Wow lmao.

Yea when I saw that tweet on my timeline it shocked me. I figured it would have drawn somewhere close to the SCF. Like 2.5 with a max of like 3 million.

Sad that so many are missing the SCF. The first 3 games have been very entertaining.

I'm not a big time hockey fan, but I do typically watch the playoffs and the Stanley Cup Finals.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I'll admit, I stopped really caring about the Stanley Cup playoffs after the two teams I follow were knocked out in the conference finals and quarters.

I follow the Pens on ESPN GameCast, but don't watch the games because it's just too hard for me to follow as I often have little idea where the puck is. That's why I really liked that puck tracker thing they experimented with back in the 90's. Made it a lot easier for those of us with visual impairments to follow the action

The Sharks play is causing me to be visually impaired by the end of each game.

                      And it's already starting tonight.

The NBA had a lockout a few years back but it didn't hurt the sport.

I think the NHL lockout badly crippled it...maybe it's just it was already going down so people really did care when it came back.

I would be curious as to why you think that.

The NFL lockout didn't even affect the season and the NFL ratings sucks before the lockout.

How did the NHL lockout make a difference?

Didn't ESPN walk away after the lockout? I think not having games on ESPN has really hurt. NBC just doesn't do enough to promote the sport. And, of course, there's not enough scoring to keep our short-attention span selves interested.

I've watched way more of the NHL playoffs this year (even not including the Pens) than the NBA playoffs. I've barely watched any of the NBA Finals. Just too predictable these days.

NBA lockout(the 2nd one)hurt initially but they bounced back from it real quick with the amount of young talent they had coming up, in addition to what they had.

The Lockout "hurt" NFL initially, but by the next year, they were good to go. One could say that it didn't really affect it considering it still draws eyes and get everyone's attention whenever it wants.

Shoot 5 years later, they're still on top and it's not looking like they're going away anytime soon even with their "storylines".
