I love this! My brother mentioned to me years ago how someone theorized Venus would be the next planet we inhabit, but it would be much different. Cloud cities or something. Obviously we have some work to do, but could be the start of something. It would be so fitting we’ve looked so far outward and yet the next one could be right next door.

Yeah, this is pretty amazing. A lot of Astronomers have been pushing for more research on Venus and less on Mars.

From what I understand, Phosphine can't be produced without biological processes.

I mean, if we can prove this, it would be the biggest discovery in the history of mankind. Even if it's just microbial, the closest planet to us having life would pretty much extrapolate to the universe teeming with life. It would most likely be everywhere.

This would change our whole world outlook. It would change the way we do research. We would move on from trying to find life outside of Earth to ok, so how much is out there now, and how complex can it get.

Just kind of throwing out thought in my head, but you know when there’s a Big Bang or whatever and matter of all kind is sprayed out to all ends of the universe / space — is it possible we’ve given off some type of matter from here on Earth that landed on Venus and is contributing to possible life-creating substances there? I don’t know the science obviously. But it would be such an amazing epiphany, almost, that we could be the first. And that life was chanced upon here and is only now beginning to pop up in other places.

Would make me almost want to give humanity a break. Rookies. Lol

Well, there is a theory that Earth life may have originated on Mars and was sent to Earth on debris ejected from some cataclysmic impact when the Solar System was still quite young. So I suppose it is theoretically possible for the same thing to have happened between Earth and Venus. Though given Earth's larger size and thick atmosphere when compared to Mars, an impact event massive enough to eject debris into interplanetary space would have had to have been much larger than an impact with the same effect on Mars.

It's callled Panspurmia. It's a loose theory at best. But it could be possible. Phosphane is a very rare element. I'm not sure it could make it to Venus' atmosphere from here. It would probably be burned up before it would settle there.

I think we are talking about legit life being produced on another planet.

I get so frustrated because my best friend thinks space exploration is a waste of time and money. He even said why is this a big deal? I mean seriously? I really have no one to talk astronomy with. Basically I have two friends who aren't into it, and my wife gets anxiety at the very thought of space. Oh well. I guess I got this thread.

People get overwhelmed with the thought of space. I know if I get thinking about it, it branches off in to endless thoughts. Then ya snap back to what’s here and now and think that stuff can be a waste of time / resources if we’ve come up empty every time or are just learning scientific stuff that doesn’t impact the everyday person.

Certainly not for everyone. I’m not even outwardly a space person. But if I catch some news or this thread comes up, it’s just interesting to think beyond just what’s here.

you can even go all the way back to when the shuttle program started and a lot of the technology we got from that benefited us in hundreds of ways, the good is incalculable, like heart pumps and firefighting equipment for example

NASA landed Perseverance river on Mars and will be doing a drone flight there, the rover came equipped with it I believe.

It’s not the first or last time something of ours has touched down on another planet/moon, but we’re pushing forward with higher quality pictures and videos and better tech overall.

Now that I think about it, putting something somewhere that is months of space travel away is insane. In this endless literal space of stuff, we’re able to put it where we want it based off, I don’t even know. Years of equations and studying patterns and orbits and stuff? It almost feels like telepathy, being able to “be”
Somewhere without ever being able to actually physically be there. I hadn’t really thought of it like that before.

Check this out if you haven't already. It's a time lapse of the entire future of the universe. The time doubles every 5 seconds. Some of the possibilities shown are conjecture, but are at least based in science.
