Any chance this isn't a scam?

I know there's a 99.999999% chance it is a scam but I thought I'd ask for opinions anyway.

I got a call today saying I was the runner up in a drawing that they do and won $250,000. I didn't catch the name but I thought he said something like Instant Cash Rewards. He's sending me an email with the information tomorrow. He wants to set up a time to deliver the check to me and then escort me to my bank. He never said any of the typical scam things (money order, $500 processing fee, western union, etc.).

I kept saying I'm not interested (which I've found usually deters scammers after you say it 5-10 times) and even hung up on him but he just called right back (also unusual IMO). He just called back tonight trying to set up a time and after telling him several times again that I was not interested and to find someone else, he told me that he doesn't appreciate being treated like dirt and he's just trying to help me out. And that he's going to call back tomorrow to make sure I got the email proving he's legit.

That seems like a lot of work to try and scam someone especially after I said no so many times. What's his angle? What's the scam here?

I don't know how or why you're being scammed, but it's definitely a scam. It always is.

Did you enter their contest? No? Then most likely a scam. IMO

It's a scam. You deposit the check and they do a source of receipt to get your account info.

And that's after the check bounces.

And being persistent is actually one of the bigger red flags off a scammer.

Gotcha. Didn't know that was possible. I was just stumped about what they were gaining out of it.

Lies. I had the same thing happen and we won 5k. Not as much as you won, but it's worth a shot.

Find the name of the company, Google the name and see if its a scam.

Escort you to the bank. What could possibly go wrong?

Have them meet you at your local police station. That should figure it out.

This was my first thought... the better question you should be asking is why is someone trying so hard and getting so emotional about not being able to give you prize money. You say no, they should just move onto whoever came in 3rd... not cry about getting treated like dirt.

Winning $250,000 in a drawing you never entered? Sounds legit.

Being personally escorted to the bank to deposit the check? Sounds legit.

(post is dripping with sarcasm, FYI )
