Haven't bought anything, but I've sold games, Xbox 360 controllers. The usual safe guards apply in meeting in a populated/well lit area, don't meet someone at their home or your home, etc.

Brother bought a weight set for the garage, has been using it for years, wasn't a bad experience.

Yea I have bought and sold stuff on Craigslist. Actually met a guy's house but I agree with the others meet in a public place. Ask questions and for pictures of the item you want.

Over the course of my adult life I have sold 5 consoles, one graphics card, one ipod, and a TV on Craigslist. I bought one console on there as well.

All experiences were positive and legit. I am extremely careful though. Typically I like to have at least 4 e-mail correspondences with the person asking questions about the product and their reason for buying/selling, etc. I also like to talk on the phone at least once before meeting. If I get ANY hint of weirdness, I bail. Even if I feel the guy is 99 percent legit, I bail. 1 percent chance of meeting someone who is looking to rob or maim you is too much of a chance at all in my book. I only go if I am sure. I reposted the same 360 3x over the course of 6 weeks before I finally found the right fit. I don't take any chances.

In this case I'd be buying software I can just DL, although meeting is an option.

Something as simple as that... can you get paypal protection on CL?

Actually tell me if you'd be okay with a couple of these

Never had a issue but I always went with a friend too on top of meeting at a public place.

Odds in favor of being legit, but obviously be cautious at all times anyways. Never know who might be crazy. If you're just buying computer program, person likely won't be crazy.

I'd imagine there'd be higher chance of bad deal relating to bigger things like consoles, tvs, cars, and so on.

Is that usually where people run into issues at?

I imagine phones are the biggest issue. Those are the stories I've always heard about.

I'm not even looking for a physical item if that makes sense.

The site concept always seemed a bit weird to me, even less than a digital classified ad

Yeah I learned that other peoples ideas of mint condition phones are a whole helluva lot different than mine. Years ago I was gonna buy an iPhone 4 and they said it was in mint condition and when I met them at the Verizon store the phone had scratches all over the screen and body. When I asked them how in the world they could consider this mint condition they said they didn't really notice the scratches lol.

That's why i said computer software is more chance being legit. Though if you need code to activate the software, that's one thing to make sure, that the code is valid still, or else you're basically buying a 30 day demo.

Those are the big money, high in demand items. I mean common sense, who would you think is more likely to get scammed, someone buying an electronic device like a phone/gaming console or someone buying a table? Scammers more likely to hide within high demand items.

Then again, I've bought games online in past before, and even dvd boxset, no problems. Dvd basically got such good deal, it averaged out to 30 cents per episode(so basically got it 66% off retail price).

That makes sense. I guess I never thought of going there for a system. I remember selling my dreamcast on ebay long ago and one guy emailed asking if we could meet so he could get it. That was before Craigslist was created.

Didn't bother but was the first and last time I even thought about doing that.

Buying download software like this, may be a little risky. Not sure where you are downloading from, but if it isn't just a code to then use on the developer's site, then you always risk it not being real or cracked software.

Adobe is moving everything to the cloud/monthly fees, so maybe they got a bunch of codes at a cheap price. I would ask and/or check with Adobe. Maybe this is some employee at a company who is selling extra keys.

Yeah I know... I'll definitely ask if its a code to download.

If they're offering pick up as well they probably have some software. If you've ever worked in the tech industry with IT or anything they always end up with a bunch of enterprise copies of OS and other software stuff you'd have to pay good money to get.

Thinking this might be the case since a couple of them look like they are in the downtown area
