Re: Extra Life 2016
Thanks to CAMPBLACKMAMBA, I'll be raffling off a game download code for Battlefield 1 for XB1!
The catch: donate $10 or more to my Extra Life fundraising efforts (link below) by midnight Friday 10/21. I'll be drawing the winner on Saturday, 10/22. I don't wanna make y'all wait for this awesome new game!
I don't have many donations this year so far so your chances are very high. Just sayin'.
Check me out at: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?...ipantID=202251
Good luck & thank you!NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Extra Life 2016
Just over a week to go. My prize list has been updated, numerous games to give away and a brand new PS4 slim to give away!
Every donation helps, but at least $5 gets you the opportunity for a game!
Donating to me or my son gets you entered in the contests.
Thanks again!!

Re: Extra Life 2016
It's Extra Life week! I have a bunch of prizes to raffle off as well as a brand new PS4!
Every donation counts and means something but little as $5 gets you entered in the drawing for games.
Thanks to everyone for their support!!!
Game on with Extra Life, a fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Rally with our community of gamers to play games and raise funds that help kids in local communities across the U.S. and Canada.

Re: Extra Life 2016
EG, hooked you & your son up with a donation apiece.
I wouldn't have known about this charity without your influence, so I just wanted to pay it forward to both you and your son. I think it's super cool you both play on game day. My son is only a couple months old, but I'd love if he got in to Extra Life when he was older.
I stumbled on this charity at the right time. I was going through a tough time and was pretty lost. This event brought meaning to my life at the time. Turned me around and everything worked out for the best. I'll never forget where I was then and where I am now, and this event reminds me to stay grounded, humble, and compassionate.
Thank you.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Thank you.
I posted in the supporters forum about this, but I had a stressful Extra Life with the lack of internet, but my son still gamed for 16 hours! And all the while, kept talking about how he was helping kids who are sick. I'm so proud that I was gushing. Unfortunately, with all the other circumstances, I was cranky most of the dayHad some financial stuff come up unexpectedly and the whole Internet thing.
But again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It truly means the world to me.
I'm also so happy that this charity has put you in a good place. That means even more to me. This charity is my life outside of my family. I'm so happy to see others find the joy in it and how we as a group are helping kids out. Michael (from Extra Life) said something Sunday morning that made me break down a little bit as I do at the end of every Extra Life it seems LOL. But he said "this charity allows parents the ability to kiss their kids goodnight tonight, when otherwise, they may not have that opportunity" Hit me like a ton of bricks man.
So thank you, thank you to everyone who donated, shared, joined us, etc. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are doing great work. We are over 7 million dollars raised as of last night. It's still growing. Thanks to the awesome people in this thread especially.Comment

Re: Extra Life 2016
Its cool man. You been doing this so many years that we know you be playing if you could.
Good for you too keep doing it. I really want to do it one of these years. I got an Angel Day to use at my new job now (basically get one day off from work with pay to do something for charity) and im planning on using it for Xtra Life.

Re: Extra Life 2016
This is something I've wanted to get into the past couple of years, but it seems like I don't think about doing it until September/October.
I just told Ashleigh this is something I want to do next year so I'm going to make the commitment to follow through and hopefully get a couple people to participate along with me.
Do you guys have any words of advice or suggestions for those just starting out?

With getting it going, start early in the year. I set my page up in January every year. Set a reminder to remind family/friends once a month till you get till late September. Then blitz once, twice a week. Ask friends to join you. Explain what it is. The best explanation I can ever give is it's like a Relay for Life except instead of walking for 24 hours you play videogames for 24 hours. Every dime goes to the kids at whatever hospital you choose, Extra Life has zero overhead, no one takes a salary, so if someone donates $5, the hospital gets $5. Seek out the hospital you choose, ask to take a tour (it'll really open your eyes to what Extra Life provides). Mention it when you can at your employment, get them involved. Remind people that gamers aren't bad people, we are doing wonderful things. Will probably raise over 8 million this year all for kids.
I can help you with anything you need, just ask. Hope that helps.Comment

There's really nothing to it. You ask for donations in person or on Facebook, and you play a marathon on game day. I always like to kick off my page with a $20 donation to get people going.
My boss has donated to my fundraising the last two years. If you can get your employer, officially or personally, to do so too, heck yeah!
This was my 6th year so at this point when I bring it up people understand what I'm doing. There is still a large disconnect though -- "how do I know you're playing?" "How does that work?" I do the same as EG and say it's like sponsoring someone for a marathon... you're really just donating to the cause and we're pledging to do this marathon to show how serious it is.
But like I said, it's not a huge set up, you don't have to like, register with some charity and go through a screening process or anything (besides setting up your fundraising page). It's just so simple, so easy, and so rewarding.
My final advice: just do it! Take one day and set up your page. Post the link on your social media. Tell people about what you're doing. I've gotten hundreds of dollars in donations per year (down year this year, been busy with a newborn) and it's just crazy to think. Donating is so easy... people just need that little push to take a few moments to do it.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
