Re: Off Topic 2017: Fallen Kingdom
I'm kind of the opposite extreme in that I had a bunch of comic books as a youngster and I'm not a fan of how Hollywood treats/mass markets most superhero/comics so I usually stay away from watching them. The main exception being the Christopher Nolan Batman movie series which was excellent.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Off Topic 2017: Fallen Kingdom
Let me get your guys' thoughts on this to see if this is normal office behavior:
Spoiler
I've worked in this office for 6 years. For as long as I've been here kitchen utensils and other supplies have been provided. In the past when we've run out or low a simple, "hey we're out of such and such" would suffice. Now we have a Supply List Request sheet which does a better job of tracking what we're out of/in need of.
We've been running low on plastic utensils for about a month and have been altogether out of forks for 2-3 weeks. No big deal to me other than me forgetting to bring in a fork when I need it for lunch, but spoons/knives are still more than adequate in servicing lunch needs.
Yesterday, the boss man sees a co-worker eating a salad with a spoon and makes a remark about needing to get her a fork. Of course this sparked light-hearted conversation about the supply list, "not working as well as intended" and us saying we need forks/utensils (Empahsis is mine for future reference). To me, it was a completely normal conversation and one that was made mostly in jest. I am one to over-analyze, but I didn't give it a second thought the rest of the day.
Everybody comes into the office this morning and everything seems fine. About 10 minutes after everyone gets in and settled we're all called into boss' office (there are 5 of us total) where were are literally scolded for saying we needed utensils.
Apparently the use of the word really rubbed him the wrong way. "You need pens, paper, staples. You need to do your jobs. You don't need utensils." He continues by theorizing that he provided these things because he was being nice, "perhaps I've been too nice and some things need to stop because I don't like my niceness being taken advantage of. Maybe that hour off early on Friday afternoons is too nice." He brings up a competitor of ours that is a couple buildings down and adds, "I bet he doesn't have his employees coming to him telling him they need utensils," (the competitor is repeatedly described with the characteristics of a donkey). He ends saying, "I don't want any comments on this. I just wanted to say what I said and stew for awhile." And we all marched out.
--------------------------------
I feel like I fell into an alternate reality. At first I wanted to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. That somebody would take umbrage with his employees saying they need utensils which have been routinely provided during the course of everyone's employment. By the end; however, I was just pissed that this was even an issue and his way of addressing this immature and down-right childish. Honestly it made me want to walk out and start delivering resumes.

Re: Off Topic 2017: Fallen Kingdom
That's a bit of a dramatic reaction over freakin utensils. I could somewhat understand it if utensils weren't regularly provided and you just walked into his office one day demanding it, but that's not the case. Doesn't make sense why he'd take that so seriously and even threaten to not let you guys out early on Friday's? Over a damn fork lol...
Dude must be having a rough week or something.

Re: Off Topic 2017: Fallen Kingdom
I just keep one water bottle (if I did coffee I'd also have a mug, but I don't), and a set of fork/spoon/knife in my desk and wash it right after I use it. That way I avoid any and all utensil/drinking vessel/coffee "clubs" or "funds" that might form. "Nope, have my own, thanks!"Comment

We have dishes and a dishwasher in our kitchen at work, but I bring my own disposable plastic plates and utensils because I don't want to be any part of the "loading or unloading of the dishwasher". I get enough of that at home.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

I don't mind loading/emptying the dishwasher at work. I guess since I don't own one at my house, its nice to load it up or take the dishes out of it.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I can't imagine have dishes and dishwasher at work. Drama waiting to happen. The microwave is bad enough.

Its not bad at where I work. The only dishes we really have are coffee cups, glasses, and silverware. We do have bowls, but they are rarely used.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: Off Topic 2017: Fallen Kingdom
Boss could have handled it better, but plastic utensils are a couple of bucks. If the employees "need" them, then somebody should just pick some up the next time they're at the store rather than wait on the boss. That's the way we've always handled it.Comment
