Little bump here, not exactly the same as “how does it work” but still regarding LinkedIn...
I check my LinkedIn nearly everyday. I kind of use it like FaceBook in that I log in and scroll my feed, maybe check out a job posting or read an article shared, but very rarely do I leave a comment. I think I’ve only shared/posted once on there.
But for anyone that’s on there lately, it really feels like a professional circle jerk. Thought leaders and recruiters non-stop posting inane pseudo-motivational garbage. I was triggered to post this by this recent post that went a little something like this; hey everybody I know every post you see is about how you should start your own business and become your own boss but you should have a plan before you do that.
Ya think?! Do we really have to tell people that? I would hope before you give up the thing that pays your bills, you thought about it for more then just the time it took to read some generic motivational snippet.
People are using this platform for different reasons, so I don’t want to come off as “it must be done my way!!”, but it is being flooded with trash like that. They’ve got to get their X amount of posts per day, reaching X people per day, and converting X percent. It’s really hollow and see through. As someone who knows how social media marketing works, to see every single post formatted the same is lame and does the exact opposite of what the post is supposed to do. Watered down garbage.
It’s like everyone is reading the same “How to Post to LinkedIn” guide. Probably by Gary V. Oh man, the people who live and die by his every word. If you’re following his advice to the T, you probably don’t have an original thought or a chance to become what he’s built.
In an effort to be different, everyone has become the same. How ironic.
