Thank You OS
It's been a while so I'm hoping that this is okay to post in the Neighborhood Forum. Something got me thinking the other day about OS and this wonderful community that we have that really gave me the urge to post. I remember when I joined the community almost 10 years ago, desperately searching for news on the new Madden or 2K at the time. OS played a key role in inspiring the devotion to sports gaming that I have now. What I didn't realize is how wonderful this place would become. I remember the countless hours I would spend reading through threads, how a community didn't shut down the ideas of a very young teenager at the time, and the general camaraderie of each and every member around these parts. The OS Forums have always been a place that you could just come back to. It's been a constant and as the years went on, no matter how much time has past, it remains a constant. So I just wanted to say Thank you, and hopefully get back to posting a little bit more nowadays!

Re: Thank You OS
As someone who's been on OS for so many years I totally get what you're saying. There has been some changeover over the years but by and large this place has maintained a sense of community and respect that you just don't get anywhere else. I can't imagine one day going online and not coming to this site.
This has been my cyber home and i've flirted with others (though not for a long time now) but at the end of the day this is where the heart lies. Much respect to Steve OS for making this the best community on the internet.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Thank You OS
This is the closest thing to social media i do anymore. No Facebook, no Twiiter, no Instagram, no AOL (ha). I actually was here for years (maybe started in 2004?) But i moved and i put down Madden for a few years and drifted away from here. When i came back in 16 i couldn't for the life of me remember how exactly i spelled my username before (it had numbers in it), or my password, or what email i used in 2004. So i was reborn as a Snowmonkey.
That said i agree with the OP fully.Comment

Re: Thank You OS
Been part of this community for 12 years now (and longer as I was a lurker for awhile). Not only has this been a place about video games, but about life. When our teenage son was killed 2 1/2 years ago, there were guys here who reached out. More than a username, they had names - real people who reached out. As someone who spends my life constantly giving to others (and that can wear a person out) - I found a lot of encouragement here from people. So yes, a great place and I'm humbled to be part of it...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: Thank You OS
It will be 15 years come September that I've been a part of OS. Not all were active years (we won't talk about those), but as many others have stated, this place has become a place to hangout so to speak. I honestly couldn't imagine not coming to OS and check in on people that I've known, at least thru a keyboard, for years upon years.
Yes OS has changed over the years, but the one constant is, as has been said, the feeling of a community. We don't always get along, we fight, we argue, we bicker, but at the end of the day, the members of OS will reach out to help a fellow member in need.
I've been through a divorce, the death of my mother, and some personal lows that this community helped me through. Sometimes I often think, if I would've made it through some of those times without this community. This place serves as a journal of sorts, where a person can get their thoughts out of the heads and hearts and onto "paper". And the beauty is that there is someone reading those thoughts, who doesn't "know" you but cares enough about you to give a damn and reach out.
I've met a few OS members in person, and even though I know their real name, I still call/identify them by their OS username.
Auburnalumni wrote an amazing piece in regards to the community of OS and how he had friends that he had never shaken hands with. It's true. I consider many here to be friends, even though we haven't, and likely will never, meet in person.
15 years in and looking forward to the next 15.

Re: Thank You OS
I completely agree with you, 24. I was a young, immature teenager when I first started posting here and everyone treated me like an adult and took me seriously. Not only has this place been like a home on the internet, it's also been a great source of news and entertainment. Thank you, OS.Comment

When I turn my computer on and go online, OS is always the first tab open. Even if I won't read even a single thread for hours, it will still be there. It's more home than a homepage. Great place! My Specs:

Re: Thank You OS
It’s kind of scary I’ve been on here for 11 years now. It would also be scary for me to go read the stuff I used to post as a 14- and 15-year old when I joined.

Re: Thank You OS
I take pride in being a long-standing member of this site. I like to believe I've contributed in a positive way to the discussions here. I've "met" so many great people on this site, and I've enjoyed having those personal conversations where we discuss much more than video games, over the years. OS really does feel like a community we all belong to.

Re: Thank You OS
This is a great thread! This is my 11th year on OS. From online hockey leagues, baseball edits and all around chewing the fat. I honestly still go to OS every day as one of my first go arounds in the morning.
The community is great, the guys I have competed against, cooped with, collaborated with, can't be matched by any other site I have been part of.
I especially love the beer drinking attribute editing this teacher does on his summer vacation. Boy it gets weird. Let's hope to another 10 years of OS. Post on friends!Comment
