Half Marathon is in the books! Overall, I felt good about my performance; I ran my race and aside from a brief stroll to deal with a side stitch, ran the entire 13.1 miles. It's funny that while I felt I ran better than last year, my time was about 2 minutes slower. Oh well, not like I was trying to win the thing. Still, I crossed the finish line at 2:15 with a smile on my face. It's always good to challenge yourself and I'm glad I was able to complete this race in good health and spirits.

Taking some recovery time now and then I'll shift focus for a bit and get back on my road bike.

Congratulations! Still faster than my last 1/2 marathon. It was fun and it removed any desire to run a full one 🤣

Great job, DJ! Wouldn't worry about your time (not that you are), since there are so many variables involved, as you know.

Hope everyone is keeping up the momentum getting into the tail-end of January. If the gym crowds are any gauge, people are still going strong.

I say that to myself each time I run a half; how the **** do you run double what I just did? 13.1 feels like the absolute max for me. Shoot, your training runs for a full marathon can go up to 20 miles. No thanks. I'd rather try my hand at a century bike ride.

2018 was a crap year for me and working out. To many stretch's of me not doing anything. I have a stupid busy life but that's no excuse really. I have everything I need in my garage.

Just started Monday on the 5x5 Stonglifts program again. I love this program and have had great success every time I've done it. Starting real light and am going to work my way up again. Here's to 2019 being a much better exercise year.

I think everyone has ebbs/flows to their exercise consistency. It's normal. The fact that you guys are picking it back up again shows you're doing the hardest part.

Look, working out sucks. Hooray for those people that enjoy it, that's great - I wish I was one of them. But for most of us, would I rather be watching TV and drinking a beer on my couch 100 out of 100 times? For sure. But getting my rear-end out the door into the gym (or wherever you work out) is by far the hardest rep. Everything after that is relatively easy.

Sounds like people are doing great. Keep it up!

So considering I had that cold for 12 days I have really only had 1 month this year instead of close to like a month and a half to try to exercise and lose weight. So far I have only lost like 2-3 lbs this year man it is hard to lose weight I need to lose 13lbs more at least. I am around 28lbs over what I really should be for my height but I want to lose at least those 13 because I tend to have heart burn issues when I get to around 200+ and I am at 213 right now.

My gym at work (community college) had some room in the budget to get a few new toys. Rowing machine and hex bar are in. Should be a landmine coming soon, that was my request. Not sure what else is coming...

                      Re: 2019 Fitness Adventures

I've been trying to eat better and have reached a point where I feel like I'm exercising too much. I will typically exercise for at least an hour, but will often exercise closer to 90 minutes and sometimes even longer.

Since October/November I've been following the ab routine in the free app Six Pack in 30 Days. It has three separate 30 day routines to follow. I'm on the last third of my final month and each workout is taking 15-20 minutes whereas when I started it was largely 5-10 minutes. So clearly a progression and one you can definitely feel.

So everyday I work out (5 days a week) I will do a 10 minute warm-up (typically the same) followed by the ab workout and finish up with whatever is on schedule for Hasfit's workout. On strength-training days I will often do a spring/jog split for 15 minutes (30 seconds jog and 30 seconds sprint) before hitting my abs.

Until the Super Bowl I was managing my eating habits better. I have been eating more during the day to not only help me curb my after-dinner munchies, but to also give me more energy for my workouts. Super Bowl I went a little crazy on the bad foods and have some terrible "cheat" days since then.

This week has been good, but I really need to focus on my weekend habits more because I feel like I lose a lot of my weekly progress on Saturday/Sundays by not eating well. Sometimes that's skipping meals in anticipation of a big dinner. Other times that's overeating. And usually there's alcohol involved.

Last year I did a couple food challenges just to see if I could do it so I've decided to do some more. Doing the chip one again is obvious and it certainly helps breaking the snacking/overeating habit. One I've always had trouble with is eating while watching TV. So, my first challenge I want to tackle is 30 Days (or More) of not eating in front of my TV.

                      TL;DR - I'm doing well, but it's always a mind game.

Quick update. Doing real good so far. With this program you workout 3 times per week. So far I should have had 18 workouts and I've got 17. So staying pretty consistent. I'm about half way to the weights I was lifting a year ago but I'm starting to get that consistent back and feeling pretty good about where I'm at.

I've been trying to combine light weight/really high rep work with heavy weight/low-rep workouts, and so far I think it's going okay. I get something different from each type of workout, and the low-weight-high-rep stuff doubles as a cardio workout, which I definitely need. Progress is slow and not very noticeable to be honest, but as long as I keep at it, I have to tell myself it's better than sitting on my keester. I mean, more than I already do...

I think I’ve been scared straight.

My lab results from my check up weren’t great. Decided it was time to get serious. Hit the gym every night this week. Zero soft drinks and zero sweet tea this week (a major accomplishment for me). Lots of salads and grilled chicken. Got a long way to go but I already feel better.
