    Mattress recommendation

Long overdue to replace our mattress that we purchased in 1996.

Yeah, I can search the sites but would rather get some real first-hand recs.

My wife and I bought a Sleep Number about 15 years ago and still love it. We had different preferences (firm vs. soft) so this works great for us.

wherever you get it from, avoid places with names like Good Vertibrations or Lumbar Yard.

We're about to move to a new house and are replacing our mattress too. So many options out there, it's tough to decide.

I'm really intrigued by that purple egg crate mattress, but I think you can only buy it online

It's OS so just go ahead and assume people are going to suggest one of the most expensive mattresses on the market.

If you want to go the mattress in a box route. My wife got one from Brooklyn Bedding about 3 years ago. At the time they just one had that was soft, medium, or firm. We got a medium and it's been great. It's probably what the Signature is now.

I got a new "normal" mattress about 4 years ago from Sleep Experts. If they have one near you they have some kind of technology where you can lay down on this special bed and it takes all kinds of readings to recommend a certain line of mattress and firmness for you. I liked it just as much as her bed, but we went with her bed when we got hitched.

You spend like 1/3 of your life in a bed. Don't go too cheap. What is your budget?

I think our max is going to be around $1,500. Looks like we can do the base models of the nicer brands around that cost. My wife likes the Nectar mattress because it's cheaper, but I'm trying to convince her we need to spend for quality, especially as my aches and pains increase due to getting older

Your budget won't allow it, but adjustable bases are great. I got a SleepNumber bed a few years ago and kicked myself for not getting one sooner. When I bought a new house, I upgraded to an adjustable based one and love it. Being able to elevate your head is great, if you have sinus issues, it helps you breathe.

I know sleep number does free base promotions sometimes, maybe we'll get lucky over President's Day

Without a doubt, sleep is the most important thing you can do for your overall physical and mental health. Having reaching the big 50, I have found it difficult to sleep throughout the night, waking up super early, and then feeling like crap each morning with aches and lethargy. Tuesday night, for some reason I slept like a teenager. I woke up so refreshed and felt like a champ, a rare event. Sleeping on a 24 year old mattress, I bet I could settle on any host of mattresses and I'm in for a great upgrade.

Still don't know which one we'll get, but I appreciate all the feedback.

An air mattress would probably be better than a 24 year old mattress

Never go super cheap on things that separate you from the ground. Shoes, mattresses, and tires. A bit of quality does you a world of good here.

I don't have any specific recommendations other than this is not the place to penny pinch.
