    Re: Off-Topic

Comcast has been running commercials with a "in my day" internet thing with a teenager telling younger kids about how bad it was with cable internet. I had 56k and AOL back in the day

I can't imagine having 56k now. We're so damn spoiled. Honestly if my internet starts acting up even a little I get pissed. If it doesn't load something instantly I feel like I might as well be living in the dark ages.

          It's always about expectations.

People are always like "people today wouldn't survive 20 years ago with that technology", but it's like...you never had these expectations 20 years ago watching shows in HD or internet that loads pages in an instant or doing so from literally anywhere at any time on your phone.

My grandmother still had an outhouse and no indoor plumbing well into the 1980's. To this day, the worse job I've ever had was for four long years it was my job to empty her bucket she used into the outhouse because she had gotten to old to walk out there.

Yeah, really got into the internet like '98 and on so a lot of that was with 56k then very early cable. The fun of playing stuff like Asheron's Call or Dark Forces II and tying up the phone line for the afternoon .

I wonder what video stores could've been like with modern subscription models.

Pay $10 a month and you can rent any 1 movie or 1 game a week.

$25 a month and you can rent any number of movies or games a week

Not so much a subscription but I swear as a kid/teen I was gifted a Blockbuster book of coupons one year.

Pretty sure the first modem we had did 14K. I remember downloading some NFL 94 Joe Montana photo and it taking forever.

I remember the dial up days but does anyone remember that in-between after with DSL? The wires/cables from the family computer (lol, now we have em in our pockets) through the other room to the connection was a beautiful aesthetic.

It’s possible that’s what I was on when I signed up here. Lol

T1 is ideal for that crystal clear 240p video experience.

I feel this in my bones. Dealing with a TBI has made memories from when I was as young as three years old come back to me recently. They're bitter sweet and I'm just here for the ride that life is giving me.

                                The craziest setup for sure.

One modem with a bunch of blue cables (or whatever yours was) running through walls, under carpet, you name it.

The day wireless came around and all those cables got to be thrown away was great.

Similar thing happened with my tv setup a few years back. They have cable boxes that no longer need to be directly connected, you just have a single modem and the channels comes through internet from the tv company too. The amount of cables that got thrown away because of "wireless tv" was great.
